Job Description - Director, Medical School Education

Location: Chicago, IL

Job Description:

  • Provides oversight for several faculty and student committees (i.e. Academic Promotions, Academic Progress, Disciplinary, Curriculum Review (CEPC, CRC-1, CRC-2, CRC-3).

  • Oversees the development and enhancement of existing technological systems to support medical education at the Pritzker School of Medicine. Works closely with senior staff and faculty deans to ensure technology systems (Canvas, etc.) and support the development of online student portfolio tracking efforts.

  • Leads team that oversees the school's longitudinal Scholarship and Discovery curriculum.

  • Oversees the management of the medical school's Clinical Performance Center (CPC). The CPC is a simulated clinic with outpatient examination rooms, equipped with examining tables and other clinic-related material, and a web-based audio/video recording system to monitor the students' performance in a simulated doctor-patient relationship in the examination rooms utilizing standardized patients (SPs).

  • Develop processes, policies, and data collection to ensure maintenance of all education-related LCME standards. Develops processes for evaluating and analyzing key metrics of students' performance (medical school performance, USMLE board score achievement, professional achievements of graduates). Works closely with the Education team to provide ongoing evaluation and review of the Pritzker School of Medicine's undergraduate medical education program.

  • Manages the execution of the school's registration, enrollment, grading, and graduation procedures. Creates plans to coordinate student affairs activities between students and faculty.

  • Manages a team of individuals that validate the academic status of students within the school to ensure proper tuition assessments and scholarship awards.

  • Identifies and implements technological solutions to improve operating efficiencies and assure veracity of data gathering.

  • Performs other related work as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

  • Masterâ™s degree.

Experience:

  • Senior-level leadership experience in a university environment working directly with students. Medical education strongly preferred.

  • Background in program development and evaluation.

  • Expertise in successfully providing direction, setting priorities, identifying opportunities for improvement, implementing initiatives for change, managing people and projects, and setting priorities for budget resources.

 

Technical Skills or Knowledge:

  • Extensive project management skills and negotiation experience.

  • Knowledge of data analysis and management.

  • Proficient in data analysis, Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and other common software programs.

Preferred Competencies

  • Sound judgment and tact in handling confidential issues in working with faculty, students, and administrative staff.

  • Proven ability to function independently and proven record of excellent professional judgment.

  • High level of both verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to execute effective presentations.

  • Proven ability to set and maintain a standard for a high volume of productivity in a fast-paced environment.

  • A high degree of accuracy with attention to detail and the ability to effectively prioritize multiple tasks.

  • Professional and interpersonal skills needed to effectively supervise others.

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead teams.

  • Enthusiastically support the initiatives of the school, while being able to maintain a calm and courteous demeanor and to work productively despite a heavy workload.

  • Problem-solve and follow an issue through to resolution.

  • Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to handle all constituents with courtesy, maturity, discretion, and diplomacy.

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to self-motivate.

  • Work independently and well as in multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Must be a problem-solver and effective communicator, able to maintain confidentiality, manage stressful situations, and work on multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Must possess a commitment to the highest standards of integrity in working with faculty, staff, applicants, students, and alumni.

 

Working Conditions

  • Regular attendance.

  • Occasional evenings and weekends.

  • Light lifting, keyboarding; regular attendance.

  • Travel to various sites on and off campus (BSLC, UChicago Medicine, campus offices) as well as outside travel on behalf of the medical school.
