Job Description - Early Childhood and Elementary Physical Education Teacher

This position reports to the lower school head and collaborates with classroom teachers and other specialists.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Plans, implements, assesses, and aligns Physical Education lessons/curriculum for ages 2 through second grade. (2s, 3s/4s, kindergarten, first and second grade)
  • Supervises a morning run club two days a week for first grade through fourth grade
  • Teaches health to fourth-grade students
  • Coaches or teaches seventh- and eighth-grade Physical Education for at least two seasons, as assigned by the athletic director
  • Writes narrative progress reports twice a year for all students
  • Facilitates lunch, recess, and other open-ended duties
  • Ensures a safe, healthy, and joyful environment
  • Ensures that guidance and support are provided for all students to develop a positive self-concept
  • Participates in weekly STEAM team meetings
  • Offers a diverse and comprehensive curriculum
  • Leads Physical Education assemblies and events
  • Organizes and facilitates an Activity Day in the spring for first grade through fourth grade

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in Health and Physical Education
  • Previous teaching experience
  • Familiarity with the new National PE Standards and SEL Crosswalk Standards for Physical Education
  • A lifetime learner who is committed to ongoing and meaningful professional development
  • Passionate about lifetime physical activity and meaningful participation.
  • A strong ability to build connections with young students and to develop an atmosphere of mutual respect
  • Knowledge of best practices for the social, emotional, and cognitive development of students in elementary grades
