Job Description - Educator III / Professor

This position will be in support USU, Graduate School of Nursing. The Graduate School of Nursing at USU is developing programs designed to recruit and retain superior nurse corps officers educated to function as independent healthcare providers, faculty, and scientific researchers for both the in-garrison and deployed/austere environments.

 

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike.  Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

 

HJF is seeking an Educator III (Professor) to provide lectures on Advanced Anatomy to advanced practice nursing students. The incumbent will assist the Program Directors in curriculum development, implementation, and provide updates related to graduate Advanced Anatomy course work in the school and will be responsible for teaching the graduate course as assigned. In addition, the incumbent will be responsible for advising students and evaluating student progress. Upon graduation, students are expected to be qualified to practice independently in the clinical setting as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN). APRN programs at USU include Registered Nurse Anesthesia (RNA), Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP) Adult Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist (AGCNS) and Psychiatric Mental Health Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).

 

 

 

 

  • Prepare instructional materials, specifically identification of anatomical structures, deviations from normal adult anatomy, and the correlation of pathologic process/clinical correlations, in accordance with the syllabus and list of required structures.
  • Provide Advanced Anatomy lectures to APRN students in either pre-recorded digital format or live lecture based upon social distancing guidelines.
  • Construct 50-60 questions/exam related to lecture content for 4 examinations.
  • Collaborate with Senior Lab Faculty to align and coordinate lecture content with laboratory instruction.
  • Assist with student evaluations when necessary.
  • Contractor(s) are expected to submit instructional material for lecture/lab to the course.
    coordinator at least 14 days prior to delivery.
  • Deliver approximately 160 hours of lecture/review/preparation (at a ratio of lecture: preparation ratio of 1:3 or specifically 40 hours of lecture to 120 hours of preparation.
  • Report to the Military Course Coordinator.
  • Any substitutions in teaching assignment need to be pre-approved by the course coordinator in
    writing.

  Physical Capabilities 

  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must possess a minimum of a Ph.D. or M.D.
  • Should have practical experience in instructing medical or graduate level students in Advanced Anatomy.
  • Must have a history of assisting and delivering courses, conducting review sessions, and integrating the science of anatomy in a clinically relevant fashion.
  • Must have demonstrated expertise and the ability to communicate the required course material in an effective, efficient, and clinically relevant manner.
  • Additionally, the successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to communicate in a clear manner both in spoken and written format.
  • The ability to communicate in the English language is a requirement for this position.
  • Must be able to be available for the entire semester during scheduled course times. Any absence will require coordination with the military course coordinator for approved coverage.
  • Doctoral-level training in education, psychology, or a related field, to include training in research design, qualitative analysis, and quantitative analysis.
  • Knowledge of and experience with teaching content areas in field of specialization.
  • Familiarity with academic and research advising Master and PhD students.
  • Strong personal initiative and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to use sound judgment in solving problems.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple systems, projects, and programs at the same time.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to coordinate disparate groups of faculty and learners in meeting and working together.

Work Environment  

  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.

 

Education and Experience 

  • Doctoral Degree
  • Minimum of 9-10 years experience required
