Job Description - Engineering Records Technician II, Facilities Construction and Improvement

BALTIMORE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS JOB TITLE : Engineering Records Technician II REPORTS TO: Senior Supervisor, Design, Construction and Improvement GRADE : 05 (1.0 FTE/12 months) SALARY : $23.43 to $39.27 per hour, per the ESPBC - Education Support Professionals of Baltimore County pay scale, effective July 1, 2023. DEFINITION : Organizes, processes, and tracks a variety of requests for the Office of Facilities Construction and Improvement (FCI). Maintains and operates complex filing systems for the maintenance, storage, and retrieval of engineering and construction records and related documents. Maintains files of construction drawings, maps, specifications, and plans. Delivers engineering documents within and outside of the Baltimore County Public Schools system. Performs other duties as assigned. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES :
Organizes, processes, and tracks the various request forms for compliance and responds to the Public Information Act requests received by the Office of Law. Coordinates closely with other departments and school administration in support of these processes and adheres to all related deadlines.
Coordinates and maintains comprehensive files associated with capital projects. Maintains files of plans, specifications, drawings, and other project-related documents.
Maintains and updates databases of engineering documents. Retrieves and signs out original documents to departmental staff. Photocopies engineering documents.
Maintains and operates complex filing systems for the maintenance, storage, and retrieval of engineering and construction records and related documents.
Scans, electronically files, stores and retrieves large format record drawings (plans) in PDF format.
Records comments and photos of the mechanical and physical appearance of all schools and offices. Operates personal computers, printers, and related equipment.
Deliver plans, specifications, related engineering documents, and packages to and from various locations throughout Baltimore County.
Coordinates with outside vendors to deliver and receive construction related documents.
Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : Education, Training and Experience :
Possession of a high school diploma or appropriate equivalent.
Four years of file management experience.
Experience in the engineering and construction field is preferred. Licenses and Certificates :
Possession of a valid class C Maryland driver's license or an equivalent is required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Knowledge of office practices and procedures. Knowledge of file management systems. Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software applications. Knowledge of office equipment. Knowledge of engineering and architectural drawings.
Skill in the use of filing systems. Skill in the use of personal computers and office software programs. Skill in carrying out complex directions.
Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS :
The work of this class entails frequent walking, standing, and lifting and carrying large engineering documents. Employees must use step stools and ladders to access files kept at heights. Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • All persons employed by the Baltimore County Public Schools, regular and temporary, are required to be fingerprinted and have a criminal background investigation (State of Maryland, Senate Bill 315, effective October 1, 1986) completed. The fee charged for fingerprinting is $109.00. An identification card will be issued which must be shown prior to employment.
  • Anyone offered employment is required to provide proper identification and documentation of eligibility for employment in the US.
  • If you have military experience you will be asked to provide a copy of DD214.
  • Official transcripts for all higher education must be received prior to hire.
  • Some positions will require employees to undergo a physical examination and/or drug testing.
  • All newly hired personnel must attend a Badges and Benefits session.
  • Additional job verification will be required for salary credit.
