The (PACU) Registered Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and coordinating patient care from the operating room to discharge. The Registered Nurse is responsible for the achievement of patient outcomes through implementation of critical pathways and in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of OrthoRI. Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. Delivers safe patient care according to OrthoRI policy and procedure
2. Assesses, plans, evaluates, and ensures the implementation of the patient’s care to achieve identified outcome, and reviews on an ongoing basis
3. Coordinate’s nursing interventions to enhance achievement of expected outcomes and to ensure readiness for discharge
4. Demonstrates ability to direct and provide for patient care in emergency situations
5. Utilizes specialized nursing knowledge, nursing process and discriminative judgment while giving direct or indirect care
6. Assigns patient care responsibilities based on patient needs and abilities of available staff.
7. Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and competence of designated skills identified for position in post anesthesia patient care duties.
8. Monitors vital signs, recognize emergencies, and notify Anesthesiologist
9. Checks dressings, drains, tubes and patency of catheters as appropriate
10. Assists with postoperative patient calls
11. Reviews charts for completeness and administers and medications as ordered by physician
12. Assists with cleaning of preoperative and recovery room areas according to policies and procedures
13. Checks inventory and notifies appropriate staff member to re-order
14. Demonstrates the proper discharge care per the OrthoRI guidelines
15. Attends and participates in all applicable facility training and development workshops scheduled by the facility
16. Communicates patient information to assure confidentiality and continuity of care.
17. Documents all patient information according to established standards and provides pertinent information confidentially to physicians, family and team members involved
18. Demonstrates the safe operation of equipment and machinery and follows procedures for reporting and correcting an unsafe situation
19. Performs all other duties as assigned by management.
20. Compliance with HIPAA and OSHA regulations

Required Education and Experience

1. Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing
2. Current RI State Licensure
3. BLS & ACLS Required
4. At least one year of medical/surgical nursing experience preferred.
5. Any combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
6. Experience with Electronic Medical Records

Physical Demands:

• Requires mobility, frequent walking, standing, and sitting, some bending, stooping and stretching and periodic lifting of up to 50 lbs.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to converse and hear.
• Requires normal (corrected) vision.
• Requires coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate office equipment

Work Environment: This job operates in ambulatory surgical center. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.


Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., but may vary depend on Company Schedule. Effective December 1, 2021, all Orthopedics Rhode Island employees are required to have an initial dose of vaccine to prevent Covid-19. Effective October 1, 2021, all employees of RI licensed health care facilities must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19. Employees may be deemed exempt from this requirement based on documentation from their health care provider. Our policy is to remain compliant with the department of health guidelines.
