Job Title: Postdoctoral Scholar Department: EHE | Crane Center for Early Childhood A full-time Postdoctoral Scholar will be hired to dedicate 12 months each year (100% effort) to conducting a needs assessment for Ohio's ongoing Preschool Development Grant (PDG) in the Crane Center for Early Childhood Research and Policy. The project investigates (1) the B-5 Landscape in Ohio, (2) experiences of families and children navigating Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), (3) Programs and services available to families, (4) barriers facing ECCE service providers), and (5) issues facing the ECCE workforce. Under the supervision of the Director of Evaluation and Innovation, the Postdoctoral Scholar will primarily work on the qualitative effort of this state-wide assessment but may also work on quantitative portions of the project. This will entail coordinating qualitative data collection efforts, analyzing data, and drafting the results. The Postdoctoral Scholar will engage in a variety of scientific efforts, such as conducting field studies (e.g., recruiting and assessing participants, conducting observations), generating new research proposals and ideas, conducting data analyses, and reporting, and participating in scholarly writing and dissemination activities. The Postdoctoral Scholar should have demonstrated experience in (1) qualitative data collection and analysis, including research skills and experiences in individual and group interviewing, survey design, and mixed-methods analysis (including qualitative coding, data management, data analysis, and data visualization) and/or quantitative data collection and analysis (including data cleaning, descriptive statistics, and regression), (2) writing for publication, and (3) data collection in applied settings, including child care programs, schools, and community settings. The Postdoctoral Scholar should have demonstrated interest or experience in (1) working with stakeholders from marginalized communities, (2) using human-centered design, stakeholder, participatory, or other community-based approaches, and (3) experience conducting rigorous statistical analysis. The Postdoctoral Scholar must have (1) the ability to work both independently and in collaboration with others on a multi-disciplinary research team and (2) excellent organizational and communication (oral and written) skills (including spoken/written English). This position will require some daytime travel throughout Ohio to lead focus groups and other data collection efforts for the purposes of understanding ECCE in Ohio. Must be based in Ohio, preferably Columbus to allow for easy travel but may work remotely outside of required travel. Minimum Qualifications * PhD in a relevant field - including but not limited to education, sociology, psychology, public policy, etc. * Experience in social science research or evaluation. * Experience with qualitative and/or quantitative data collection, cleaning, and analysis. * Strong written and oral communication skills. Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Zoom. Power Point. Preferred Qualifications * Demonstrated publication record (relative to the timing of degree). * Familiarity with Qualtrics and managing digital questionnaires. * Familiarity with Dedoose and analyzing qualitative data. * Experience with qualitative social science data collection including analysis via surveys, interviews, or focus groups. * Experience conducting independent fieldwork and engaging with stakeholders. * Ability to function and communicate effectively and respectfully within the context of varying beliefs, behaviors, orientations, identities, and cultural backgrounds and a willingness to work and collaborate in diverse, multicultural, and inclusive settings. * Experience cleaning and analyzing quantitative data (descriptive statistics, regression analysis). * Experience with statistical software: R and/or Stata Additional Information: Salary Range: $50,000-$55,000 Location: Schoenbaum Family Center (0933) Position Type: Term (Fixed Term) Scheduled Hours: 40 Shift: First Shift Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check.
