General Summary:

The Psychologist serves as a member of the Access Services Team and is responsible for providing psychological testing for LifeWays and its network providers. The Psychologist assists Access Evaluators in providing culturally competent and trauma informed services to all consumers seeking access to behavioral health services via LifeWays. The Psychologist uses established criteria and clinical skills to evaluate individuals for community mental health eligibility and service needs and provide appropriate interventions to individuals presenting in crisis. The Psychologist incorporates LifeWays' mission, vision and values into all decision making.

Essential Functions:

  1. Welcomes all individuals by demonstrating empathy and providing opportunity for the person presenting to describe situation, problems and functioning difficulties, while exhibiting excellent customer service skills and working with them in a non-judgmental way.
  2. Coordinates, monitors and completes services for Autism testing and re-testing that include the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule ( ADOS ) and the Autism Diagnostic Interview - Revised ( ADI-R ). .
  3. Performs other assessments or testing within scope of practice such as but not limited to Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (OBRA), behavioral functioning, etc., as assigned.
  4. May facilitate and/or participate in the Behavior Treatment Committee, as appropriately credentialed.
  5. Screens individuals who approach the access system to determine whether they are in crisis and, if so, assures they receive timely, appropriate attention.
  6. Determines individual's eligibility for Medicaid specialty services and supports, MIChild, Healthy Michigan Plan, Substance Abuse Block Grant (SABG) or, for those who do not have any of these benefits as a person whose presenting needs for behavioral health services make them a priority to be served.
  7. Collects information from individuals for decision-making and reporting purposes.
  8. Refers individuals in a timely manner to the appropriate health practitioners for assessment, person-centered planning, and/or supports and services; or if the individual is not eligible for Prepaid Inpatient Health Plan (PIHP) or Community Mental Health Services Program (CMHSP) services, to community resources that may meet their needs.
  9. Informs individuals about all the available mental health and substance abuse services and providers and their due process rights under Medicaid, or MIChild, Healthy Michigan Plan, SABG, and the Michigan Mental Health Code.
  10. Performs all duties as assigned to ensure the Access Team runs efficiently and effectively. Duties include but are not limited to: Triage, Open Access, Rapid Access, Regional Electronic Medical Information (REMI) screenings, Call Back Que, Waitlist updating, specialty screenings (M-CHAT, SCQ, etc.), testing (ADOS/ADIR), petitions, brief screens, intakes, pre-screens, crisis, and safety planning.
  11. Performs duties in a variety of settings to include but not limited to: the office, community locations, emergency departments, schools, consumer homes, and jails.
  12. Works a non-traditional schedule which may include evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
  13. Provides on-call services, as needed or assigned.
  14. Maintain regular and predictable attendance.

Required Education/Certification/Licensure:

  • Master's degree in Psychology, TLLP or LLP
  • Clinical Master of Social Work (MSW)
  • ADOS/ADIR training or within 3 months of hire
  • Psychologist I: Master's degree. Temporary Limited Licensed Psychologist (TLLP) Licensed Master of Social Work (LMSW)
  • Psychologist II: Limited Licensed Psychologist (LLP) and is a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) or is a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC) ; or Licensed Master of Social Work (LMSW) Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) or is a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC)
  • Psychologist III: Doctorate in Psychology. Fully Licensed Psychologist (LP) and is a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) or is a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC).

  • Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC)
  • Doctorate in psychology (LP)
  • Licensed Master Level Clinical Social Worker (LMSW)
