Position Overview: Our Urban School Programs engage students in their local environments, delving into the intricacies of built and natural systems. The aim is to develop an understanding of urban systems, empowering learners to contribute to resilient, healthy, and thriving communities. For the 2024/25 school year, our programs will be conducted at various locations, including the Brightwater Education Center, public parks in Seattle, along the Duwamish River, and at schools across the region. Urban School Program Educators will teach established curricula to 3rd-6th grade students in King and Snohomish Counties. Collaboration, partner teaching, and problem-solving are integral to ensure the delivery of high-quality, grade-appropriate programs tailored to students' learning needs. This position is designed to provide opportunities for professional growth through debriefing sessions, scheduled professional development, staff observations, and feedback within a supportive community of educators. Job Title: Urban Programs Educator Reports to: Urban School and Community Education Manager Classification: Part-time/Seasonal, Hourly/Non-Exempt Pay Rate: $22.77/hour (subject to annual review) Work Schedule: Varied, predominantly weekdays during school hours Work Location: Remote; specific location varies depending on school/program (Please note: Only candidates within the Greater Seattle area will be considered. No out-of-state candidates.) Assignment Date: September 17, 2024, to June 2025 Benefit Package: This position is seasonal part-time flex and does not qualify for health benefits; however, Seattle Paid Sick & Safe Time hours apply. Other benefits include the Employee Assistance Program and access to various Employee Discounts. Primary Responsibilities: Deliver high-quality, culturally responsive instruction to 3rd - 6th grade students in diverse settings such as schoolyards, local parks, and the Brightwater Education Center. Participate in trainings and team meetings. Maintain timely and professional communication with program staff. Engage in program debriefs and assessments. Demonstrate commitment to continuous learning and growth through feedback within an active learning community. Qualifications: Minimum of 1 year of experience teaching elementary and/or middle school youth. Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in education, environmental education, or related field. Demonstrated success in engaging youth across cultural and racial boundaries and learning styles. Confidence in teaching and managing groups of students in various settings. Interest in teaching about the intersection of urban environmental systems and communities. Ability to respond professionally to various situations that may arise quickly. may consider an equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, education, and experience to meet minimum qualifications. Other Requirements: First Aid and CPR certification (by start date). Commitment to support work towards equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace. Must be able to comply with and maintain a drug-free work environment. Must pass child safety screening procedure post-offer. Possession of a driver's license and access to a vehicle is desirable. Completion of WA Reporting requirements.
