Telecommunications Installer/Technician
Location : Remote in Peoria, Bloomington, or Springfield Illinois areas. May go into the East Peoria Construction office now and then for paperwork.
Travel: This is a traveling position to client sites in the Central Illinois territory. Day travel with occasional (less than 10% a year) overnight travel.
Shift: Monday - Friday (8am - 5pm)
A Telecommunications Installer/Technician is tasked with installing, maintaining, and repairing telecommunications systems and equipment. This role involves handling a range of technologies, including telephone systems, internet services, cable television, and other communication devices to ensure reliable and high-quality service for customers.
Key Responsibilities
Installation and Configuration :
- Set up and configure telecommunications equipment such as routers, modems, phone systems, and cable lines.
- Establish communication systems for residential and commercial customers.
- Test and troubleshoot installed equipment to ensure proper functionality.
Maintenance and Repair :
- Diagnose and fix issues with telecommunications equipment and infrastructure.
- Conduct routine maintenance to keep systems running efficiently.
- Address service calls and troubleshoot network or connectivity issues.
Customer Support :
- Deliver excellent customer service by explaining installation procedures and equipment usage to clients.
- Handle customer complaints and offer technical support both on-site and remotely.
- Educate customers on effectively using their new telecommunications systems.
Technical Operations :
- Install and terminate cables, including fiber optic, coaxial, and Ethernet.
- Utilize specialized tools and equipment for installation and testing, such as cable testers and signal meters.
- Program and configure telecommunications systems to meet customer specifications.
Documentation and Reporting :
- Maintain accurate records of installations, repairs, and maintenance activities.
- Complete and submit the necessary documentation and reports promptly.
- Keep inventory of supplies and equipment used in installations and repairs.
Qualifications
Technical Proficiency :
- Skilled in using hand and power tools.
- Understanding of telecommunications systems and networking principles.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
Experience and Education :
- At least 2-3 years of experience in telecommunications installation, maintenance, or a related field.
- Fiber, copper, and/or patch experience.
- Experience installing phone systems.
Soft Skills :
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good physical condition and ability to work in various environments, including heights and confined spaces.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Experience with voice systems in the telecom industry.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or certifications preferred.
- Certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT), or similar are advantageous.
