Under the general direction of the Chief Counsel of the Division of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) and supervision of the Assistant Chief Counsels, Attorney IVs represent DOSH in a wide range of legal issues handled by the DOSH legal unit. Attorney IVs are typically the most experienced and qualified attorneys within DOSH and serves as lead over other attorneys within the unit. They are expected to mentor less experienced attorneys; devise curriculum and author original training materials; serve as lead counsel; have special subject matter expertise in discrete practice areas to serve as a resource for other attorneys and field staff regarding that practice area. Attorney IVs also perform administrative functions, such as assigning cases, projects and other matters to staff attorneys, as well as other duties as assigned by the Assistant chief Counsels, Chief Counsel or Division Chief. Duties include, but are not limited to:

Must be a member of the California Bar and qualified to practice law in California; the Attorney IV classification requires at least ten years of experience in the practice of law.
