Position Description

The Department of Art & Art History at The University of Mississippi invites applications for an Instructional Assistant Professor of Art History beginning August 22, 2024. This position is 9-months, annually renewable, full-time, non-tenure-track, and benefits-eligible. It requires a M.A. or ABD (Ph.D. preferable) in Art History or in a related field at the time of appointment. Candidates will possess a commitment and ability to teach some combination of survey courses, Early Modern courses including Renaissance and Baroque, and Twentieth-Century art. The anticipated teaching load is four classes per semester, including both in-person and online courses. 

 

Candidates will work with undergraduate students in the BA in Art History, the BA in Art, the BFA in Art, and with non-art majors, as well as with graduate students pursuing the MFA in Studio Art. The primary responsibilities for this position include teaching art history courses at both the lower and upper divisions, mentoring students in the program both academically as well as with career preparation, and performing service appropriate to the position, including recruitment and participation in shared governance.
