Job Description - School Nutrition Program Area Supervisor

PRIMARY FUNCTION :
Provides support to the School Nutrition Program [SNP] by assisting with school level support to the foodservice operations to ensure that Federal, State, and Local standards are achieved. Including but is not limited to - staff training and development, food preparation, food service, sanitation and safety, recordkeeping, organization, and troubleshooting. Review meal management production records to ensure accuracy of meals that are recorded and served and retain records on file for Federal/State audits. REPORTS TO : Executive Director School Nutrition
SALARY SCHEDULE : School Nutrition Manager
WORK DAYS : 190 REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Education:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent with 3-5 years supervisory experience in an institutional foodservice operation. OR
  • Associates degree in occupational studies or technical training in foodservice management, culinary arts or hotel/restaurant management a plus.
Preferred : Bachelor's degree or equivalent educational experience, with an academic major or are of concentration in food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, family and consumer sciences, nutrition education, culinary arts, hotel/restaurant management, or business. Experience, Skill, and Certification:
  • Two or more years experience in a supervisory role of a large restaurant, hotel, caterer, cafeteria, or school nutrition program. progressive culinary experience with a high-volume restaurant, hotel, caterer, hospital, or institutional foodservice operation.
  • Experience supervising more than 5 food service employees.
  • Experience in institutional meal planning & preparation.
  • Completion of GaDoe required O.N.E. (Orientation for Nutrition Employees) within the first 90 days of hire.
  • Completion of GaDoe Manager Pathways, and Culinary Pathways within one year of hire.
  • Valid ServSafe Food Manager Certification issued by the National Restaurant Association or ability to obtain certification within the first 90 days of hire.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Supports District-Wide training and provides individualized training to Managers, Leads, and Assistants as needed.
  • Provides leadership and direction to School Managers and Staff to ensure that all schools serve high quality meals.
  • Supports the training of SNP Managers and cashiers in the daily use of the POS system.
  • Ensures school cafeterias follow proper procedures and regulations related to the ordering, receiving, storing, handling, preparation, and serving of food.
  • Monitors Program compliance with Federal, State, and District standards through site visits to review meal production, service line set up, meal presentation, food quality, and sanitation procedures.
  • Monitors program compliance with Federal, State and District standards established for food preparation, meal service, sanitation and safety, food storage and inventory control, cash collections, and customer relations.
  • Monitors and reviews school level inventory and valuation reports for accuracy and cost control.
  • Conducts reviews of program operations to ensure Federal, State, and Local procedures related to SNP are fully implemented.
  • Assists in the development, evaluation, and implementation of Associate work schedules.
  • Assists SNP school Managers by developing plans to ensure the highest levels of student and faculty participation are achieved and maintained.
  • Communicates with Technology to troubleshoot and solve problems associated with the FOH/BOH accountability systems: Newton, Edison, Franklin.
  • Demonstrates work simplification methods as needed.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of marketing and promotions.
  • Provides technical assistance to school Managers and staff in all aspects pertaining to Child Nutrition programs.
  • Develops a strong working relationship and collaboration with school Administrators by being the primary contact for all concerns, questions, and requests.
  • Provides a program for involvement of students, parents, and community in the SNP; provides customer relations services to schools and community.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Supports the implantation of a corrective action plan with the goal of improving school Managers' leadership development. Assists in the development of pertinent documentation.
  • Supports school managers with adhering to sanitation standards and benchmarks on bi-annual health inspections.
  • Supports the development of Standard Operating Procedures [SOPs] at the school and Central Office levels.
  • Assists in the resolution of personnel conflicts.
  • Serves in the capacity of Acting School Manager when the school Manager is absent or on extended leave.
  • Seeks and supports nutrition education opportunities to support wellness for students and staff.
  • Supports organizational and department planning and operational procedures within specifically assigned areas.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the SNP Executive Director.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT Incumbents will be considered "at will." Appropriate pay will be determined based on the Grade as determined by Human Resources and allowable experience. The work calendar will be 190 days.
