Job Description - Tennis Shop Supervisor

The La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club is currently seeking a Tennis Shop Supervisor to join our team at our beautiful oceanfront property!

Rate: $21/hr

SUMMARY

Supervises the Tennis Shop in its day-to-day operations and helps ensure overall guest satisfaction. Obtains or receives merchandise, monitors shop activity, totals bills, accepts payments and provides exceptional customer service to members, guests, employees, and visitors. Promotes and follows LJBTC, Inc.'s Signature Service standards and requirements ensuring a lasting impression of exemplary service resulting in supremely satisfied and loyal members and guests.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Trains and supervises Shop Staff under Manager's guidance.
  • Assists Shop Manager with quarterly inventory, as well as weekly inventory on a smaller scale.
  • Assists Shop Manager with scheduling and general department information communication to other Shop Staff and in department meetings.
  • Dispatches daily maintenance calls and work request orders to Engineering, calls to extension 2500, and other communication necessary for customer satisfaction.
  • Responsible for tennis lesson scheduling, micros rings, pertinent phone communication.
  • Responsible for Shop opening and / or closing procedures (including pertinent communication with Tennis Professional Staff regarding schedules).
  • Assists in creation and maintenance of computer forms and files as the department works toward becoming more technically advanced (for tennis schedules, rental equipment information, vendor information, inventory records, etc.)
  • Assists in creation of department promotional materials.
  • Assists Shop Manager with reconciling Shop (financial) information with Accounting Department on a daily basis (in the form of response to member bill inquiries, lesson rings, etc.)
  • Assists Shop Manager in efforts with Club Membership Director, Club Tennis Director and Club Junior Tennis Director toward continuous improvement of the company Tennis Department.
  • Greets customers and offers assistance both in person and in telephone interactions.
  • Attends trade shows with Shop Manager.
  • Visits other pro shops for competitive analysis.
  • Attends weekly manager meetings in Shop manager's absence.
  • Responsible for ongoing appearance of Shop.
  • Perform regular duties and responsibilities of a Tennis Shop Clerk.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

OUTCOME

The leadership provided by the Shop Supervisor will have a great effect on the guest impression of the entire department. The Supervisor's roll in motivation and training will lead to friendly and efficient customer services and will enhance customer satisfaction. The servicing of guests and members at the Tennis Shop in an efficient and positive manner will influence the customers' perception of the company as friendly, helpful, professional and reliable, and will help generate merchandise sales.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises subordinates in the Tennis Shop. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these individuals, as directed by the Shop Manager. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associates degree (A.A.) or equivalent from Two‑year College or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively in English to customers, managers, guests, or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS :

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions and percentages.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

The employee must constantly lift and/or move up to 10 lbs. and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Employees in this position have daily contact and interaction with members, guests, and visitors as well as the housekeeping and engineering departments. SCHEDULING

This company operates seven days a week, 24 hours a day. Shifts will generally be rotated unless you were hired for a specific shift, as much as possible to be fair to everyone . At times it may be necessary to move you from your accustomed shift if business or task assignments demand. In addition, it should be understood that business needs determine the number of hours that you work.
