The Clinical Nursing Director for Inpatient Services of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, will plan and manage the clinical and administrative operations for the Cardiac Procedures Unit (CPU.)
This role assures implementation of patient care and quality assurance standards; plans, organizes, and evaluates clinical practice and educational activities. Participates in planning, development and implementation of unit policies, goals and objectives and standard of nursing practice. Counsel and evaluate the performance and clinical practice of the nursing, technical, and clerical staff. This includes staff development programs and unit orientation to ensure compliance with practice standards. Identify and resolve unit operational problems. Represent the unit on assigned clinical area and Hospital committees. Maintain compliance with Federal and State regulations regarding affirmative action, safety and patient care.
Actively collaborate with the Cardiac Procedure Unit Director of Clinical Operations and Divisional leadership in the development of annual budgets and activity forecasts; manages and provides variance reporting of activity, payroll, commodity and capital budgets; participates in new program development and implementation; and works closely with the Medical Directors and Cardiac Procedure Unit Director of Clinical Operations to create and support an environment where cutting edge and innovative care is provided to a continually growing number of cardiovascular patients. Serve as MPlan Dyad leader with CPU-EP and CPU-Cath Medical Directors
Planning, coordinating, and managing the clinical and administrative operations of the cardiac procedures unit. This includes supervising nursing and assistive personnel and participating in managing budgets, payroll, commodities, staffing and staff reviews, participation in the implementation of patient care and quality assurance standards; and planning, organizing, and evaluating CPU practice and educational activities.
Plan, assign and supervise the work of CPU nursing and support staff; serve as contact person for physicians on issues such as status of cases, procedural rooms to add on rooms to add cases, etc.
Provide clinical direction, procedural support in all areas of CPU, providing care to patient populations across the age continuum.
Supervise direct clinical nursing care, serving as clinical resource to unit staff.
Actively participate in orienting, precepting and supporting clinical staff; provide periodic review and feedback to unit staff.
Provide supervision, counseling, coaching, discipline and evaluation of unit staff.
Participate in new program development and implementation.
To participate in planning, organizing and evaluating patient care standards, guidelines and educational activities for both patients and staff.
Lead and participate in continuous quality improvement programs.
Fosters a culture of patient and family centered care by creating a positive and caring experience with every interaction. Recognizes Internal and External customers and continually looks for ways to improve service for Internal and External customers. Required to regularly provide patient care as needed.
Share call rotation with Nurse leaders for off hours as a resource for clinical and operational issues.
This position reports directly to the Associate Chief Nursing Officer for UH/CVC, who reports to the Chief Nursing Officer, UH/CVC.
Supervision Exercised
The position supervises the clinical staff within the Cardiac Procedures Unit, including nurses, technologists, sheath pullers and paramedics.
