Job Description:

Basic Function:

As a live-in professional and essential member of the Division of Student Success staff, the Community Director manages and supervises the day-to-day community development and operations of a residential community of up to 600 first-year and/or upper-class students. The position reports to the Assistant Director of Residential Life & Housing and supervises 8-15 student Resident Advisers.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, train, and evaluate 8-15 Resident Advisers.
  • Under the leadership of the Assistant Director, develop, implement, and enhance a comprehensive Residential Curriculum model.
  • Serve as a University Hearing Officer to facilitate student conduct proceedings.
  • Serve as on-call staff person for the residential community on a rotating basis with the other professional staff members. This includes responding to various policy infractions, crisis situations, and various student incidents on campus.
  • Serve as a case-manager within the Care Team, including, attending weekly meetings to collaboratively address student support needs related to personal, academic, and housing-related concerns.
  • Conduct weekly staff meetings and regular one-on-one meetings with Resident Advisers to share information and discuss student and Hall/House-related concerns.
  • Provide leadership for students and staff to initiate, implement, and evaluate educational, social, recreational, and community service programs for residential students. Actively encourage faculty and staff involvement. Implement and attend programs to provide maximum visibility in Halls.
  • Manage professional development, staff development, and hall programming budgets.
  • Coordinate staff efforts to serve as a liaison between residents and campus partners effectively.
  • Support the Assistant Director for Housing Operations or their designee in managing residential facilities and operating residence halls. This work includes but is not limited to, collaboration with the Facilities team, opening and closing residence halls, submitting and tracking work orders, room assignment, room changes, damage billing, health and safety inspections, room condition reports, housing lottery, etc.
  • Support the Assistant Director for Residential Education or their designee in planning and implementing RA training programs, in-service training programs, RA socials, and appreciation events, RA evaluations and ongoing assessment of the RA team, RA Hiring processes, coordination of RA duty schedules, departmental assessment efforts, etc.
  • Oversee Hall Councils for respective residential communities, including facilitating weekly meetings and regular meetings with hall council leadership and the building representative on the Clark University Student Council. The Community Director will also oversee the programming plan and budget for their hall council(s).
  • Each Community Director will work on other department and division projects and committees to be determined by the Director and Assistant Director of RLH or their designee.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Participate in the growth and development of the Center, Division, and Clark University.

  • Supports students' onboarding and off-boarding process through the Career Connection Center.
  • Supports critical retention, internship, and career curriculum initiatives.
  • Regularly assesses, monitors data, and iterates approaches to promote equitable support and outcomes across all student groups
  • Supports key initiatives and experiences within the Division of Student Success and the University, such as opening weekend, orientation, commencement, family weekend, traditional events, etc.
  • Serves as a responsible committee representative as requested.
  • Attends necessary meetings and informs staff regarding relevant information
  • Promote efficiency and courtesy throughout the University community and ensure consistency with the Division of Student Success mission and values.
  • Remains cognizant of the University's mission and identity, constantly promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and student voices' importance. Communicate effectively with your supervisor concerning the pertinent unit and/or University matters.
  • Other duties as assigned that are within the best interest of the division.


Requirements:

  • Master's degree required; degree specialization in Higher Education Administration/ Student Affairs/College Student Personnel preferred.
  • Previous residential life experience at the RA or professional level is strongly preferred.
  • Flexible and adaptable, high-energy approach to student development and proven ability to engage students.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Basic budgeting skills.
  • A strong understanding of student development is essential.
