DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:

Under the general supervision of the Supervisor / Manager, Ambulatory Pharmacy, and within established organizational and departmental policies and procedures, the Ambulatory Pharmacist is responsible for providing pharmaceutical care in a community practice setting. Primary, essential job functions involve ensuring rational drug therapy through a focus on prescription filling / distribution. Must be willing / able to support the clinical pharmacy and other organizational activities as required. A commitment to patient safety, customer satisfaction, efficient / effective use of resources, teamwork, innovation, and performance improvement is required   

Summary:
Co-Op positions are multitasking positions with functions consistent in both clinical/clerical areas. Employees are expected to perform clerical and clinical aid responsibilities.

Responsibilities:
Pharmacy Co-Op responsibilities include:
•Accurately creates / maintains a patient profile of health- and insurance-related information in the computer system.
•Accurately registers patients
•Assists patients, family members and/or employees who drop off prescriptions; sets appropriate prescription pick-up expectations.
•At point of sale, verifies that the patient or agent receives the correct prescription(s).
•Assists Ambulatory Pharmacists in filling prescription orders, compounding various non-sterile products, dispensing prescriptions and making the offer to counsel.
•Assists Ambulatory Pharmacists in handling phone calls from patients and health care providers.
•Places daily orders with the wholesaler, receives / opens / places into inventory all items, verifies associated paperwork.
•Counsels patients on medication therapy accurately
•Assists Ambulatory Pharmacists in maintaining an accurate perpetual inventory of all schedules II – V controlled substances.
•Other duties as assigned

Rehab-Co-Op responsibilities include:
•Completes computer registration thoroughly and accurately according to protocol.
•Prepares charts with appropriate accompanying forms.
•Handles patient-billing problems effectively.
•Obtains proper insurance authorization for appointments
•Compiles daily provider statistics
•Directs all calls to appropriate staff and contacts providers as needed.
•Schedules patient appointments on the computer.
•Notifies patients of schedule/appointment changes in a timely manner.
•Maintains medical record system allowing for easy tracking of records on site as well as off site.
•Performs patient set-up and preparation in treatment areas according to provider’s instructions.
•Cleans equipment according to infection control procedures.
•Prepares treatment areas, whirlpools, and fluid therapy machines for patient use.
•Correctly identifies and labels medical records.
•Routinely stocks and cleans rooms.
•Keeps work area disinfected by washing surfaces with appropriate disinfectant.
•Performs therapeutic interventions appropriately according to the supervising therapist and within clinical experience.
•Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Pharmacy Co-Op
Education/Training: High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate is required. Minimum of two years of pharmacy school completed and candidate must be in good academic standing.
Work Experience: Minimum of one year experience as a pharmacy technician is preferred.
Registration: Must have a current pharmacy intern registration in good standing from the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy or be eligible for registration in MA.Rehab Co-Op
Education/Training: High School Diploma and enrolled in an accredited Physical Therapy Program
Certifications: BLS
Work Experience: Preferably one-year experience in a medical setting and/or certification from a Medical Assistant Program.
