Job Description - Director of Nursing

Job Title: Director of Nursing (DON) Department: Nursing Job Summary: The Director of Nursing (DON) is a senior leadership position responsible for the overall management of the nursing department. The DON ensures the delivery of high-quality patient care, compliance with regulatory standards, and the implementation of effective nursing policies and procedures. This role involves strategic planning, staff supervision, and fostering a collaborative environment to enhance patient outcomes and operational efficiency. Key Responsibilities: * Leadership and Management: * Develop and implement nursing policies, procedures, and best practices.
* Lead and mentor nursing staff, including hiring, training, and performance management.
* Oversee daily operations and ensure optimal staffing levels. * Patient Care Quality: * Ensure the highest standards of patient care and safety.
* Monitor patient outcomes and implement quality improvement initiatives.
* Address and resolve patient care issues and concerns. * Regulatory Compliance: * Ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations.
* Prepare for and participate in inspections, audits, and accreditation processes.
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of healthcare laws and standards. * Strategic Planning: * Develop and execute strategic plans for the nursing department.
* Collaborate with other departments to ensure integrated and efficient patient care.
* Manage budgets, resources, and financial planning for the department. * Staff Development: * Promote professional development and continuing education for nursing staff.
* Foster a positive and supportive work environment.
* Implement programs to enhance clinical skills and leadership abilities. * Collaboration and Communication: * Communicate effectively with patients, families, staff, and other healthcare professionals.
* Serve as a liaison between the nursing staff and executive management.

* Licensure: Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in NY.

* Certifications: BLS/ACLS certification required; additional certifications in nursing leadership or management preferred. Skills and Competencies: * Exceptional leadership and management skills.
