Responsibilities

12 Hour Day Shift - 36 hours per week - 7:00 pm - 7:30 am - every other weekend.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Lead Psychistric Care Specialist is responsible for planning and implementing activity services for assigned program, which involves defining and implementing treatment goals as a member of the treatment team and provide continuous patient care, observation, interaction, and role modeling to patients under the direction of the Milieu Manager. This position functions as an integral part in the training and oversight of the Psychiatric Care Association.

Havenwyck Hospital is seeking a dynamic and talented Lead Psycniatric Care Specialist to join our team of compassionate, dedicated professionals.

Theis position performs routine patient care duties under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Precept new MHT’s and continue to train current MHTs.
  • Receive at least 8 hours of continuous education annually offered by the facility
  • Encourage other mental health technicians to take active roles in treatment of patients.
  • Formulate shift responsibilities with the Charge Nurse and facilitate PCS groups.
  • Assists with patient admissions, discharges and transfers.
  • Reports patient medical problems to the Registered Nurse.
  • Reports alterations in sensory perceptual images, recognizing the differences between illusions, delusions and hallucinations. Monitors safety issues regarding these patients and takes action, when indicated, to prevent patient harm. Communicates these issues to the Registered Nurse.
  • Assists patients with activities of daily living and encourages independent behavior with appropriate interventions on a daily basis.
  • Provides care to patients in a manner that considers safety, patients’ rights, comfort and a therapeutic environment.
  • Identifies verbal and non-verbal cues for potential aggressive behaviors and uses the necessary intervention to de-escalate the patient appropriately.
  • Represents the facility in a manner that conveys a professional, courteous, caring, and cooperative attitude.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred.
  • Two (2) years of related experience required.  Knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques and understanding of mental illness preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year  of experience training and developing other staff members in psychiatric patient care techniques or at least one (1) year of experience performing similar duties at facility.
  • Successful completion of approved Basic Life Support and approved Crisis Prevention Intervention & Behavioral Management training.  Certification may be obtained during new hire orientation.
  • Employees must be in good standing (employment/corrective action history, evaluation, etc.) to be considered for internal transfers. EEO Statement
