Job Description - Medical Lab Tech MLT or Medical Tech MT

Mobile Health Team Inc. a staffing agency has openings for a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Technologist(MT). We are looking for someone with a passion for people.

Location: Chariton IA 50049

Assignment Start Date: 3/18/2024

6 weeks Days 12hour shift 36 hours guaranteed weekly

Under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager performs clinical laboratory procedures quality assurance and instrument maintenance. Maintains cooperative working relationships with intradepartmental and interdepartmental personnel.Performs a variety of general laboratory tests to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease. Performs routine and special laboratory tests following requisition of a physician may perform clinical tests in any one or combination of areas of specialization.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Incorporates Mission Vision and Core Values of LCHC into the department and ensures departmental employees and self adhere to these.
  • Wears appropriate apparel for the position and displays nametags upon such apparel.
  • Regular and predictable work attendance.
  • Performs routine and special laboratory tests within.
  • Recognizes test inconsistencies and takes appropriate corrective action. Assists laboratory coworkers in the resolution of similar problems. Seeks help from the Laboratory Manager.
  • Calls critical test results to physicians or nurses immediately and according to established criteria.
  • Prepares test reports legibly. Initials and dates of own work performed. Reviews reports for clerical accuracy and clinical indications.
  • Performs qualitycontrol tests.
  • Runs qualitycontrol tests according to procedure and maintains appropriate data recording.
  • Analyzes qualitycontrol data and takes appropriate corrective action when results are outside acceptable limits. Assists laboratory coworkers in the resolution of similar problems. Seeks help from the Laboratory Manager as required. Documents actions taken.
  • Holds patient results until outofcontrol situations are resolved. Reports unresolved situations to the Laboratory Manager.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Observe and follow department preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Documents all instrument checks preventive maintenance routines problems and corrective actions taken.
  • Recognizes analyzes and takes corrective action to resolve instrument/clinical problems. Assists laboratory coworkers in the resolution of similar problems. Seeks help from the Laboratory Manager as required.
  • Reports unresolved instrument/clinical problems to the Laboratory Manager.
  • Performs clerical functions associated with the laboratory area.
  • Helps maintain files pertinent to the laboratory area.
  • Contributes to the general laboratory functions and institutional needs.
  • Performs specimen collection and processing duties as needed or assigned and according to policies established in the Phlebotomy area.
  • Attends regular department staff meetings and inservice training.
  • Observes laboratory and hospital policies procedures and safety practices.
  • Keeps work area neat and clean and restocks daily supplies.
  • Assumes the role of leadership in the routine daily activities of the section as assigned.
  • Maintains equilibrium in stressful situations.
  • Participates in departmental oncall schedule which requires a 30minute response time
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • May be assigned responsibilities for coordinating education activities.
  • Assists the Laboratory Manager in inventory control and requisition of supplies.
  • Assists the Laboratory Manager in qualityassurance activities.
  • Dependable and responsible
  • Other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/QUALIFICATION

Experience:

  • Previous experience preferred

Education: Associate Degree in Medical Technology is expected

Licenses Certifications and/or Registration:

  • ASCP certification or equivalent nationally recognized Medical Technology certification required within one year of hire
  • Mandatory Abuse Reporter Certification within 6 months of hire

EMR System: EPIC experience preferred

Shift: varied days mainly Monday Tuesday and Wednesday 7 am7 pm

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Reasoning and language skills at the college level
  • Ability to read write speak and understand English well.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality; and both a high standard of courtesy and cooperation in dealing with coworkers patients and visitors and satisfactory job performance despite the stress of a hospital work environment.
