Job Description - Peer Support

Do you have lived experience receiving mental health or behavioral health services or with cross system involvement as a youth (Juvenile Justice; Mental and/or Behavioral Health treatment; Special Education; Substance Use Disorder Treatment), and are ready to use your experience to positively impact youth and families? Seneca Family of Agencies in Pierce County, WA is seeking for a Peer Support for the Wraparound with Intensive Services ( WISe ) team.

This role includes a $500 sign-on bonus and paid training to obtain your Certified Peer Counselor credential! 

 

As a Peer Support , you will be responsible for engaging with youth, young adults, and/or families in a community, home, or school setting. Your primary role will be to provide hope, one-on-one support, and mentorship to participants by sharing the experience with recovery/resilience and expertise in navigating systems and programs (e.g., Seneca Wraparound services, Educational Systems, Juvenile Justice Systems, Child Welfare System, etc.). As a  Peer Support you will have an opportunity to utilize your experiences navigating the past mental health services you received to positive impact youth and families in our community.

The Wraparound with Intensive Services (WISe) program provides comprehensive behavior health supports to youth with complex behavioral and mental health needs. The program's goal is to help youth thrive in their homes and communities and assist in helping them meet the goals they have identified.

  • Engage youth and families in the wraparound process by providing non-judgmental, unconditional support  
  • Meet with youth weekly to provide support in addressing needs and goals  
  • Function as a bridge between the youth, family, and system members to ensure youth voice is heard  
  • Assist in preparing and revising Cross System Care Plans (CSCP) and Safety Plans  
  • Utilize the Child and Adolescents Needs and Strengths (CANS) tool with the youth and families to review progress and challenges  
  • Work with team and families to identify relevant community resources  
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation  
  • Build, plan, facilitate and communicate Child and Family (CFT) team meeting details with team members  
  • Maintain a caseload of 12-16 clients  
  • Facilitate and encourage participation from all team members through delegation of tasks, celebration of successes and encouragement during challenges  
  • Participate in the crisis response system and be part of a rotating on-call system  
  • Maintain a team focused approach that underscores progress, identifies needs, and assists the youth and families in identifying strategies that lead to transition planning, manageability, and independence  
  • Lived experience receiving mental or behavioral health treatment ; OR lived experience with cross system involvement (Juvenile Justice, Mental and/or Behavioral Health treatment, Special Education, Substance Use Disorder Treatment) required  
  • Experience and interest in working with youth and families  
  • Must be 21 years of age or older  
  • Experience/education requirements:
    • Bachelor’s degree OR
    • Associate’s degree or equivalent + 1 year of applicable work experience OR
    • High school diploma/GED + 2 years of applicable work experience
    • Applicable experience includes any paid or unpaid experience working with youth or families, or working in the social services field
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team with a diverse population  
  • In person work and travel throughout Pierce County  
  • Experience in WISe or WRAP programs  
  • Strong coordination, facilitation, writing, organizational, and scheduling skills  
  • Flexible schedule with the ability to work evenings and occasional weekends  
  • Clearance of TB test, fingerprints, and any other state or federal requirements  
  • Own a vehicle, valid Washington Driver License, and insurability by Seneca’s automobile insurance carrier  
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccinations  
  • Full-time.
  • Monday through Friday 10am-6:30 pm  
  • Must maintain a flexible schedule, which includes evenings and weekends as needed  
  • Position will support the Pierce County, and Tacoma areas  
  • Starting salary at $21.63- $24.13 hourly, actual salary is dependent on creditable experience above the minimum qualifications for the role
  • An additional compensation upon passing the bilingual language proficiency exam
  • Mileage reimbursement
  • Stipends provided to staff members participating in the emergency on-call shifts
