Job Description - Senior corporate accountant

Work Schedule: Ally designates roles as (1) fully on-site, (2) hybrid, or (3) fully remote. The Opportunity The Senior Accountant position is within the Controller’s Group reporting to a Manager within the Corporate Accounting and Shared Services Team (CASST). The candidate would be primarily responsible for supporting the work needed to reconcile the enterprise’s cash, cash clearing, and suspense accounts. This person would also work with teams across the enterprise to provide solutions for new processes and products with a cash impact. Finally, this person will support any other ad-hoc or project work within the Corporate Accounting Team, including automation efforts and support for the implementation of a new ERP. The Work Itself

  • Prepare certain cash, cash clearing, and suspense journal entries and account reconciliations (monthly and daily) including complex accounts which require heavy collaboration with business partners across the organization to identify, research, and correct discrepancies
  • Identify and implement improvements and automation opportunities in cash-adjacent processes
  • Support 10-Q / 10-K and Regulatory reporting
  • Strive to become a SME in the cash space working to understand the many systems, entries, and teams involved in recording cash
  • Drive audit compliance within areas of responsibility and liaise with internal and external audit teams during reviews
  • Assist in supervising our offshore cash accounting team
  • Coordinate with a number of groups across the enterprise in support of new products and processes with a cash impact
  • Assist in analytical accounting support to the internal and external business partners.
  • Assists in the resolution of accounting problems that arise
Skills The Skills You Bring
  • 3+ years previous work experience in accounting or finance related field
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance
  • CPA (or equivalent) preferred
  • Possesses advanced MS Excel skills (pivot tables, v-lookups, etc.)
  • Experience with SAP, OneStream, or Workday preferred
  • Previous experience with complex bank and cash clearing reconciliations preferred
  • Previous experience with automation tools such as Power Query/PowerBI preferred
  • Should possess general technical accounting skills
  • Exhibit a strong work ethic and high degree of self-motivation
  • Sound oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to organize data, perform independent analysis, and provide explanations/conclusions to management
  • Ability to work with limited supervision while applying previous experience to execute all but the most complex tasks
  • Ability to lead small projects or contribute meaningfully to larger projects
