Job Summary:

You will manage a 21 room hotel situated in the heard heart of central campus located at the historic Michigan League at the University of Michigan. You can find a complete job description here .

Guest Services Responsibilities

  • Lead in operational excellence in all aspects of hospitality management including guest service, room reservations and room blocks, custodial services, safety, and security.
  • Provide quality customer service to hotel guests by establishing guest-centered standards; ensure customer satisfaction, stay up-to-date on knowledge of Michigan League, University campus, and the Ann Arbor area, and follow up on guest inquiries or concerns.
  • Recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation of 8-12 front desk clerks. Develop clear standards and expectations and implement recognition that results in a, knowledgeable, and guest-oriented staff.
  • Ensure the guest rooms are clean, operational, and maintained by coordinating the custodial and maintenance service with Student Life Facilities.
  • Develop and implement procedures for the daily operation such as reservation process, check in/out process, financial transactions, room block, special event reservation processes, and deposits.
  • Manage revenue, expenses, labor, and administrative costs. Develop the annual operating budget for the Inn.
  • Help purchase supplies and furnishings necessary for operating the hotel.
  • Process staff payroll and manage payroll expenses.
  • Implement cash handling and credit card transactions to ensure it meets all University guidelines and expectations.
  • Provide and maintain hotel amenities inventory for hotel guests rooms.
  • Coordinate maintenance work requests, coordinate repairs and assist with preventative maintenance scheduling for the hotel operations with Student Life Facilities.
  • Train and ensure staff understand safety/security systems and emergency preparedness procedures including serve as an emergency response liaison for the facility.
  • Create, monitor, and review a variety of business and financial reports such as sales reports, inventory reports, budget reports.
  • Develop promotional and marketing materials for hotel operations.
  • Help develop the scope of capital improvement projects for the hotel.

You will report to the Director of the Michigan League and Associate Director of University Unions.

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1-2+ years' experience working in a guest service-oriented industry.
  • Demonstrate experience with fiscal management, personnel management, risk management in a hospitality related field.
  • Demonstrate experience in decision-making.
  • Flexibility in working hours including evening and weekends.
