Job Overview This position is responsible for aerial pole line fiber installation, underground fiber placement and inside building fiber placement and maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Place/remove fiber cable risers and riser guards.
• Place/remove cable tree guards.
• Driving aerial bucket truck and/or pulling cable or other trailers.
• Tree trimming including operating a gas/electric chainsaw when necessary.
• Use fiberglass extension ladders when required.
• Pull inner-duct and fiber optic cable through AT&T or other Telecom underground structure.
• Pull fiber optic cable through inner-duct.
• Place flex duct within buildings.
• Pull fiber through flex duct within buildings.
• Follow all OSHA and company Safety regulations.
• Follow all Company practices and procedures.
• Properly keep and maintain company hand tools and equipment.
• Accept direction and instruction from Sr. Lineman or Crew Foreman.

Qualifications

• Current valid driver's license (preferably a chauffeurs, or CDL-A) with a clean driving record is required.

• Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent work experience.
• Knowledge
  • Knowledge of OSP aerial and underground placing practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations
  • Basic knowledge of safely handling and using hand tools
• Skills
  • Troubleshooting - Determining causes of operating errors and making decisions on how to handle it
  • Judgement and decision making - Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Abilities
  • Ability to work aloft, either from a ladder, aerial lift device or pole climbing.
  • Be willing to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Able to climb poles and work at heights up to, and sometimes exceeding, 50 feet
  • Able to handle extended periods of physical demands, such as sitting, standing bending, squatting, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, twisting and reaching above shoulder level
  • Ability to travel throughout the Midwest (overnights as required)
  • Problem sensitivity - ability to tell when something is wrong or likely to go wrong and reactive proactively
  • Willing to do Laborer/Apprentice work to learn aerial and underground placement of fiber optic cable.
  • Must not be afraid of heights or work in small confined spaces.
  • Able to climb, carry, set up and take down an extension ladder.
  • Ability to learn job site and work order Plans
