Position Overview

The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire an Account Technician I for the Chicago-Read Mental Health Center located in Chicago, Illinois to perform technical accounting work in verifying a variety of complex financial documents. Serves as Commodity Control Coordinator for General, Mechanical, Office Supply, Pharmacy and Central Supply stores. Batches all requisitions, purchase orders, authorizations and print orders for computer entry. Assists supervisor in various accounting functions. Prepares monthly fund reconciliation statements and commodity control reports.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Performs technical accounting work.
  2. Serves as a resource to lower-level staff.
  3. Batches all requisitions, purchase orders, authorizations and print orders for computer entry.
  4. Assists supervisor in various accounting functions, i.e., posts entries to general ledgers, reconciles Trust fund, Workshop Fund, checks figures, balances, totals, etc.
  5. Prepares monthly fund reconciliation statements and commodity control reports. Reconciles monthly bank statements on Trust Fund, Amusement Fund, Patient Travel Fund and Business Office petty cash.
  6. Prepares commodity control reports for budget information.
  7. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college and completion of an approved training course or three (3) years of related clerical booking experience.

* Qualifying state employees, in the employee Upward Mobility Program, may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this class.

Conditions of Employment

  1. Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
  2. Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  3. Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
