Job Description - Administrative Support Student

Job Description and Duties

The Student Assistant (SA) position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan to advance the health and well-being of California’s diverse people and communities by maintaining a proactive culture of continuous quality improvement, engaging staff at all levels, and leveraging data and technology to enhance services.

Under the close supervision of the Chief, Surveillance and Statistics Section (SSS) the SA is responsible for completing a variety of assignments that will provide the SA with job experience in tasks related to their field of study, including following and assisting SSS and Infectious Diseases Branch (IDB) staff in the surveillance and reporting of infectious diseases in California; performing data entry tasks; receiving and distributing some mails and faxes; and working on other assigned duties to support the overall mission of CDPH.

This non-tenured intermittent position will be limited to working up to 1,500 hours in a 12-consecutive month period.

The attached duty statement indicates whether this position is eligible for telework. All employees who telework are required to be California residents in accordance with Government Code 14200, and may be required to report to a CDPH office, when needed. Candidates who reside outside of the state of California may be interviewed; however, the selected candidate must have a primary residency in the state of California prior to appointment (and continue to maintain California residency) as a condition of employment. Failure to meet this requirement may result in the job offer being rescinded.

Special Requirements
