The Allen School is a dynamic mission-based interdisciplinary research unit with faculty based in Washington State, Kenya, Tanzania and Guatemala. Allen School research programs address connections between animal and human health, and related economic impacts. Our research mission is based on the fundamental understanding that human and animal health are inextricably linked. Often the connection is obvious, as is the case for zoonotic diseases where disease causing agents are transmitted directly from animals to humans. Other connections may be less obvious; for example when household nutrition or income is negatively affected by livestock diseases. This linkage between animal and human health exists throughout the world, yet the impact is most significant in low resource populations. At the Allen School we recognize that there are significant opportunities to dramatically improve human health disparities through strategies and interventions that improve animal health. Work environment within the Allen School is committed to a climate that values and fosters diversity, equity, and inclusion across all positions, position types and rank.
