< The Department of Medical Humanities and Ethics, Division of Narrative Medicine is seeking to hire an Associate in Medical Humanities and Ethics. The responsibilities of the Associate include educational, executive, and clinical duties. The Associate provides direction and leadership for the Division, overseeing the individual narrative medicine programs, executing specific programs, and conceptualizing new innovations. The Associate reports directly to the Chair of the Department of Medical Humanities and Ethics with a dotted reporting line to the Department Administrator. Responsibilities include: Education: The Associate teaches from a portfolio of expertise in occupational therapy and narrative medicine. The learners include students, trainees, and faculty members. The teaching may take place in required curriculum for occupational therapy students, Master of Science and Certification of Professional Achievement Program students in narrative medicine, and seminars for interprofessional clinicians in the Department of Rehabilitation and Regenerative Medicine. Researching the outcomes of the teaching interventions is a required aspect of the Associate position. Executive Leadership: The Associate directs the Certification of Professional Achievement in Narrative Medicine offered by the Division of Narrative Medicine and the Columbia School of Professional Studies, overseeing curriculum development, faculty recruitment and training, and student admissions. Together with the Chair of the Department of Medical Humanities and Ethics, the Associate oversees Division of Narrative Medicine teaching efforts at Columbia University and beyond. The Associate coordinates divisional outreach, clinical partnerships, and public-facing events. The Associate will also oversee staff. Clinical Practice: The Associate maintains a part-time occupational therapy clinical practice, concentrating on reaching the underserved- including patients at the end of life, homeless persons, and persons living with addiction. Professional development/ leadership training : The Associate works one-on-one with students and faculty locally and internationally as mentor/coach in nurturing innovative career paths in narrative medicine and occupational therapy. Division Administration: In concert with the Department Chair, the Associate manages overall division administration and assists in divisional budget management. Scholarship: The Associate presents academic conference papers nationally and internationally on topics in narrative medicine and occupational therapy and collaborates with Division faculty in co-authoring academic papers in literary and clinical journals.
