Job Description - Associate Medical Director

gpac is excited to partner with an extrodinary opportunity in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area! This practice is looking for an Associate Medical Director to join their team.

This will consist of:

75% - Service : provide veterinary care for animals and serve as an Attending Veterinarian in the absence of the AV. The AMD will oversee quality control, development, and implementation as it relates to our PHS assurance statement, AAALAC Int. site document, as well as LAS standard operating procedures. The AMD will provide animal care, protocol advice, and veterinary support to the general community. 

25% - Research, Training, and Other duties: The AD will provide research and training support including protocol development, veterinary consultation, and direct collaboration leading to publications and presentations are expected. The AMD will provide direct oversight of veterinary technicians.


  • Provide clinical (prophylactic, emergency) care to a broad range of species (rodents, rabbits, swine)

  • Provide pre-, peri, and post-anesthetic support to range of species (rabbits, swine, sheep, calves). This may also include aiding in medical or experimental techniques to meet investigator needs.

  • Instruct investigators on appropriate veterinary surgical techniques and perioperative care to ensure the successful outcome of their project and meet professional, humane care of animals.

  • Provide and support comprehensive diagnostic and necropsy services for spontaneously occurring illnesses or deaths of animals.

  • Provide direct supervision to veterinary technical staff in their follow-through of clinically supporting biomedical research animals.

  • Provide recommendations for enhancing the management of the research animal resources. 

  • Professional and courteous oral and written communication skill set needed for individuals ranging from husbandry support staff to key stakeholders

  • Provide a routine review of all practices involving research animals for added assurance of compliance with laws, regulations, and policies.

  • Review experimental protocols involving laboratory animals.

EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:


  • DVM/VMD/BVSc degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school
  • ACLAM board certification is strongly preferred

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION:


  • ACLAM Diplomate strongly preferred
  • Ability to obtain DEA practitioner license
  • Ability to obtain state veterinary licensure
