Job Description - Child Find Resource Teacher

Job Title Child Find Resource Teacher Location Landover, MD, US Organization Name Special Ed - Early Childhood Department Description POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Instructional Supervisor, the Child Find Resource Teacher supports implementation of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) regarding evaluation and Child Find processes and procedures. The incumbent of this position is responsible for chairing Individualized Education Program (IEP) team meetings, preparing referral reports for children in need of further assessment, and preparing reports related to Child Find activities. Brief Description This is a 10-Month, Table A position Salary Range: $55,079 - $123,266 CLOSING DATE: May 30, 2024
Detailed Description DUTIES &RESPONSIBILITIES:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Participates as a member of the Preschool Child Find Assessment team which includes reviewing screening information, gathering historical data, observations, and meeting with parents to discuss their childs needs;
  • Administers and scores a variety of standardized and/or supplemental assessments for the purpose of conducting evaluations and assessments of students to determine placement and/or program eligibility;
  • Conducts pre-academic evaluations for students suspected of a disability;
  • Interprets assessment results and shares findings with parents, Early Childhood Centers and community-based programs;
  • Prepares written reports based on assessment data;
  • Completes all required IEP meeting documentation and the development of initial IEPs for students who qualify for special education services;
  • Consults with educators, parents, other personnel and/or outside professionals as appropriate for the purpose of gathering academic and/or behavioral data to determine eligibility for special education services;
  • Attends and actively participates in staff meetings;
  • Maintains required documentation and follows required procedures and practices;
  • Improves skills and knowledge base in current trends, research and methodology in instructional techniques, technology, multicultural content, problem solving and interdisciplinary connections; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements QUALIFICATIONS:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.
  • Knowledge of state and federal policies and procedures related to special education;
  • Knowledge of the Maryland Department of Education Early Learning Standards and due process procedures;
  • Knowledge of mandated assessment tools;
  • Knowledge of typical and atypical child development, as well as 3-5 year old special education service provision in PGCPS;
  • Knowledge of community agencies that can support students with disabilities;
  • Knowledge of current research and trends in instructional practices related to early childhood special education;
  • Knowledge of problem solving processes and creative thinking skills;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Excellent organizational and record keeping skills;
  • Skill in maintaining effective working relationships;
  • Ability to work with children with a wide range of disabilities;
  • Ability to assess, analyze and interpret student performance;
  • Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information;
  • Ability to initiate tasks and work with a team and independently with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with parents, students, co-workers, administrators and the public; and
  • Ability to serve as chairperson at IEP team meetings
EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in applicable field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required; Master's degree preferred. A minimum of five (5) years of previous experience administering assessments to children ages 3-5.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Holds or is eligible for an Advanced Professional Certificate in Special Education issued by the Maryland State Department of Education.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No direct supervisory responsibilities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.
