Position Summary

This recruitment will be used to fill multiple part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) College of Engineering Ambassador positions at Oregon State University (OSU).


Ambassadors are responsible for supporting the College in community outreach and both on-campus and off-campus recruiting events, assisting with alumni engagement events, providing both in-person and virtual tours to students and parents who visit campus, traveling to high schools throughout the state to make presentations, communicating with prospective students, and supporting college-wide events that promote retention of current students.



Position Duties

  • Provide both in-person and virtual engineering tours for prospective students and their families.
  • Participate in engineering outreach programs both on and off campus.
  • Conduct high school visits and classroom presentations around Oregon.
  • Communicate with prospective students and their parents, representing the College and University favorably.
  • Support college-wide events that promote retention of current students, such as networking nights, Engineering Expo, new student orientation programs, Cookies & Clubs Fair, Engineers Week, mentorship programs, etc.
  • Engage in a minimum of 3 diversity, equity, and inclusion events and training each term as part of professional development activities.
  • Provide support, when appropriate, to other engineering units such as the Career Development Center, Student Services, Center for Diversity & Inclusion, etc.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*



  • International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.


Additional Required Qualifications

  • Have completed a minimum of 2 terms at OSU (you can apply during your second term)
  • A current engineering student in good standing with a minimum GPA of at least 2.5
  • Able to relate and communicate in a positive and friendly manner
  • Outstanding communication skills, both interpersonal and public speaking
  • Responsible, punctual, adaptable, and flexible
  • Ability to work during the academic year, minimum of 10 hours a month, maximum of 24 hours a week.
  • Able to work during winter break, spring break, OR summer
  • A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB.) This may include action-oriented activities such as working in summer camps focused on students of color, attending workshops dedicated to understanding issues around DEI, etc.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule

Working Conditions:

  • Work may be performed in various types of settings including but not limited to, offices, classrooms, virtual platforms such as Zoom, and campus grounds.
  • May require daytime, evening, and occasional weekend work.
  • The student worker may be required to work up to approximately 20 hours per week.
