ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY: The Incubation Program promotes, encourages, and enhances the
research activities of USF System faculty, staff, and students, and brings together the strengths of the USF System and the region,
providing a critical interface to move university and community research into the marketplace, stimulate high-tech and biotech industries,
and create jobs. The Incubation Program is comprised of three components: USF CONNECT, the Tampa Bay Technology Incubator, and the Student
Innovation Incubator. Clients are USF faculty, staff, and students; small business owners; and technology and economic development leaders
in the community, especially representatives of government, business, and industry
POSITION SUMMARY: The
position reports directly to the Director, USF Technology Incubator. The Communication Marketing Manager is responsible for developing an
overall marketing and communications strategy for the department, as well as coordinating a wide variety of programs and activities designed
to promote and publicize USF CONNECT, the Tampa Bay Technology Incubator, and the Student Innovation Incubator. The position serves as a
media contact and coordinates special events, including seminars and forums, press releases and events in coordination with University
Communications & Marketing. This position writes and edits high profile marketing and promotional materials, such as brochures, flyers, and
online and multimedia content, responsibilities. The position requires training and experience in oral and written communication in order to
serve in a professional communicator role.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Develops an overall marketing and communications
strategy for the department. Develops, edits, and disseminates materials to publicize and promote the efforts and successes of the
department. Highlights the successes of all University start-up companies, as well as all companies tenants with created materials including
press releases, magazine articles, web articles, calendars, brochures, flyers, signage, photography, video productions, and additional
communication tools, as necessary. Selects and recruits vendors to produce materials as needed. Serves as the department's media contact and
works collaboratively with other communication positions throughout USF and Research & Innovation for the development of high profile
publications, as they relate to university research. The incumbent will need to be well verse in grant writing proposals, laying out
the case for why the grant will have a intended mutual beneficial affect. Detailing the governance and support of the grant staying within
the mission purpose. Continuously updates the departments website with news, highlights, events, and seminars; develops and updates a
calendar of events that represents upcoming deadlines for awards and conferences, uploads speaking training seminars as they are issued,
monthly newsletter, uploads and updates monthly list-serve to continue constant communications with internal and external
stakeholders. Organizes seminars and other forums or events to facilitate the development and education of students, researchers and
entrepreneurs on early stage business development, intellectual property and series funding cap raises matters throughout the University and
USF community for not only the USF CONNECT tenants, but for the Evolve program and the Tampa Bay Technology Incubator, Student Innovation
Incubator and helps cross promote events with USF Matching Grant Programs, Nault Center for Entrepreneurship and Research & Innovation .
Coordinates speakers, secures event space, designs flyers for publicizing the event, communicates the event with potential audience members
through email and other web- based distributions, creates signage, secures technology for day of the event and helps set up and cleanup
after the event. Historical Data Management for Marketing Services: It is essential that accurate documentation of historical
information be maintained on marketing activities for later retrieval. The Communications & Marketing Officer will be responsible for
inputting Marketing Services data into Air Table database as related to activities associated with marketing campaigns and other marketing
related interactions with faculty inventors, industry and the community business leaders. It will also be necessary to maintain physical
copies of targeted mailing lists and campaign materials as well as other marketing correspondences. This activity requires exceptional
records management on the part of the employee to ensure that all information on marketing campaigns are carried out in an efficient and
professional manner. Supervises the day-to-day operations of assigned area including the supervision of department OPS staff.
Provides guidance and direction to staff involved in department marketing services and programs. Provides coaching and leadership to enhance
their student internship experience for future employment portfolios. Works as a leader to nurture a team environment and enhance
productivity. Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION
QUALIFICATIONS: MINIMUM: This position requires a Bachelor's degree in communication, marketing,
public relations, technical writing, digital media, or related field, with 4 years of experience in related positions; or a Master's degree
in the fields listed above and 2 years of experience. FLSB1310 Equivalency:
4 years of directly relevant experience may be
substituted for bachelor's degree.
6 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for master's degree.
