Job Details

The Illinois Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated individual to fulfill the role of Human Resources Specialist in our central office. The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of Human hiring processes, must be able to work in a fast-paced, high-volume office, maintain confidentiality, and provide guidance to hiring managers and candidates alike. Job Responsibilities

  1. Serves as a Contractual Rights Hiring Coordinator for assigned area(s).
  2. Serves as liaison and primary contact person providing guidance to the Department of Corrections (DOC) management/supervisors, Central Management Services (CMS), Human Resources (HR) staff, labor relations and others regarding contractual rights hiring related inquiries.
  3. Prepares, maintains, and stores a variety of HR records and files.
  4. Performs special projects and drafts a variety of reports for the Contractual Rights Hiring Manager.
  5. Serves as a statewide certified interviewer
  6. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college.
  2. Requires two (2) years of professional human resources experience in a hiring unit.

Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)

  1. Prefers at least four (4) years of professional experience involving contractual rights hiring processes.
  2. Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience with the Human Capital Management system or similar online hiring system.
  3. Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience providing guidance and training to managers and Human Resources staff on hiring processes.
  4. Prefers the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  5. Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience assisting managers with the hiring process.
  6. Prefers the ability to develop and maintain professional working relationships with staff at all levels.
  7. Prefers the ability to work as a team and maintain a cohesive work environment.
  8. Prefers the ability to work in an environment with a high volume of work.
  9. Prefers extensive knowledge of the framing of correspondence and reports with grammatical correctness.
  10. Prefers the ability to recommend and/or provide input in process improvements.

  2. Requires the ability to work overtime.
  3. Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
