Description

The City of Belmont Public Works Department is seeking a detail-oriented, self-motivated individual with hands on technical experience in an engineering environment.

About you:

• You know how to create computer aided design drawings for projects.
• You know how to utilize GIS to maintain and update basemaps and infrastructure records. 
• You are a good communicator who can respond to internal and external inquiries with tact and efficiency.

• You excel in the production, review and processing of engineering plans, permits and specifications.

You will be working as a member of the City's engineering team to:

• Review and issue various permit applications for work in the public right of way.
• Maintain GIS layers and produce maps associated with infrastructure in the public right of way. 
• Assist in the development and management of Capital projects. 

Requirements:

• You have at least two (2) years of increasingly responsible technical experience using computer systems for civil engineering drafting and design, or relatable experience with similar software systems, and customer service.
  
   
• You have a high school diploma or equivalent supplemented and college-level course work in engineering or computer drafting and design.

Benefits

RETIREMENT

The City contracts with the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) to provide retirement benefits. The current benefit level are as follows:

Miscellaneous "Classic Members" - 2% @ 55 

Miscellaneous "PEPRA" - 2% @ 62 

HEALTH

Medical
The City provides health insurance to eligible employees and dependents via the California Public Employees’ Retirement System(CalPERS) Health Benefit Program. The CalPERS program provides employees with several Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) and Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) options.

The City provides each eligible employee who participates in a City sponsored CalPERS Health Plan with an employer contribution towards the monthly health insurance premium.

Dental
The City provides dental insurance for employees and their eligible dependents.

Vision
The City provides vision insurance for eligible employees and their dependents via the Vision Service Plan (VSP) .

Flexible Benefits Plan
The City offers an Internal Revenue Code Section 125 Plan, which allows employees to contribute pre-tax income to the following accounts:

• Health Care Reimbursement Account (up to $2,500 annually)
• Dependent Care Reimbursement Account (up to $5,000 annually)

OTHER BENEFITS

Life Insurance
The City provides basic group term life insurance, the specific benefit amount varies by labor group. Employees have the option of electing voluntary additional and dependent life at their expense.

Long-Term Disability Benefits
The City reclassifies the cost of the long term disability insurance to the employee’s salary. The employee then pays the actual monthly cost of the premium on an after-tax basis.

Deferred Compensation
Employer monthly contribution of 1.3% of employee's base salary to their deferred compensation account.

Retirement Health Savings (RHS) Account
The City contributes a specified amount to a Retirement Health Savings Account based upon an employee's hire date and years of service with the City.

PAID TIME OFF

Vacation
Vacation is accrued on a monthly basis based on years of service.

Holidays
The City observes twelve (12) holidays per year. In addition employees are granted two (2) floating holidays to be taken after 1 year of service.

Paid Sick Leave
Sick leave is earned at the rate of eight (8) hours per calendar month of service.

Candidates who successfully pass the oral panel interview and placed on the employment list may be selected by the hiring department to move forward in the process to the department level interview.
