Job Description - GL Accountant & HR Coordinator

Supervises: NA

Reports to: Director of Finance & Operations

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

When Needed: Immediately

FTE: Full-time, Year-round

Job Summary: Under minimal supervision, supports the school’s accounting and financial reporting functions, coordinates benefits administration and assists the Director of Finance & Operations.

Specific Responsibilities:
Accounting

  • Executes the month;ly close with all reconciliations accomplished successfully
  • Manages and tracks supporting data worksheets with accuracy, completes related JE efficiently.
  • Participate with the school’s independent auditors and support the Director of Finance and Operations in preparation of documentation for annual audit and of the Form 990.
  • Develop proficiency with all business office software such as Blackbaud Merchant Services, PayNW, Pamerang, Popsicle and other associated software.
  • Verify accruals at the beginning of each fiscal year in conjunction with the Director of Finance and Operations.
  • Monitor bank balances and alert the Director of Finance & Operations about cash flow requirements.
  • Assist other members of the Business Office team with complex accounting transactions.

Payroll/Human Resources

  • Manage the interconnectivity between the school’s payroll partner (currently Pay NW) and our benefit providers (various).
  • Support employees with all benefit concerns and transactions.
  • Assist the Director of Finance and Operations with benefit renewals that serve the employees and meet the financial budgets
  • Respond to unemployment claim inquiries.
  • Respond to information inquiries from L&I after employee injuries.

  • Engage in your own professional development; be a life-long learner who enhances your skills, using state-of-the-art technologies to maintain high standards of performance to produce work products efficiently and effectively.
  • Be familiar with and comply with all policies and regulations as put forth in the school’s documents.
  • Since safety and security are everyone’s responsibility, take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, faculty, staff, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or evidence of acumen achieved through experience
  • 3+ years AP and Payroll accounting experience in a nonprofit environment a plus
  • Experience in HR transactions, related HE legalities and the Laws of Washington State
  • Experience in independent and/or Waldorf schools preferred

  • Detail-oriented with strong attention to follow through and ability to prioritize
  • Curious nature with a desire to problem-solve
  • Strong communication, organization, and time management skills
  • Efficient, effective team member but able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Enthusiasm, flexibility, maturity, and a sense of humor
  • Ability to keep information in the strictest of confidence
  • Proficient at working in a Microsoft Windows 10 environment, using Office (version 2013 or higher); ability to master common automated systems for record-keeping, and confidently learn new technology
  • Possessing a level of cultural competency necessary for working with a diverse population in an inclusive and equitable community

  • Ability to sit and keyboard up to 8 hours per day
  • Ability to talk on the phone
  • Ability to walk, talk, hear, see, stand, sit, and negotiate stairs unassisted

Hourly Pay Rate: $32.69-35.10 (Annualized rate for full-time, $68,000-73,000) Benefits: Please see our Benefits Summary which outlines the generous insurance, leave, and benefits provided for SWS Staff
