Position Overview

The Illinois School for the Deaf (ISD) is seeking to hire a position to perform complex specialized para-professional human resource duties involved in processing position/employee transactions and group insurance transactions. This position oversees the performance evaluation process; maintains coverage of the Personnel Office in the absence of other staff; keyboards personnel related forms and provides relief to switchboard; monitors students in the ISD mail room; and oversees the background check procedures at ISD.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Assists the Human Resources Director with preparing and processing the full range of personnel and insurance transactions including promotions, voluntary reductions, appointments, job assignments, separations, and leaves of absences.
  2. Enrolls new employees in the Group Insurance Program.
  3. Oversees the performance evaluation process.
  4. Keyboards correspondence.
  5. Oversees the background check procedures at Illinois School for the Deaf (ISD).
  6. Reviews ISD Personnel database for any changes or deletions.
  7. Monitors students assigned to the mail room engaged in routing, sorting and delivery of mail. 
  8. Serves as switchboard relief.
  9. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college OR satisfactory completion of an approved training program.
  2. Requires ability to keyboard accurately at 30 wpm.
  3. Requires ability to communicate in sign language at the survivor plus level on the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI).

Conditions of Employment

  1. Requires basic proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
  2. Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  3. Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
