Job Summary

SABIC Specialties seeks a goal-focused, detail-oriented individual who is passionate about helping create solutions to customer / industry problems and has the technical skills needed to help a diversified global business achieve its ambitious goals. The ideal candidate for this role will demonstrate hands-on laboratory skills in chemistry laboratory.

How You Can Be the Impact

• Perform laboratory reactions and run sample analysis per instructions from Exempt technologists (chemists/chemical engineers) to produce reliable and accurate data to support programs.
• Maintain an accurate notebook describing research conducted and prepare summary reports as needed.
• Initiate and complete workflows for new chemicals prior to laboratory use / reactions.
• Perform basic troubleshooting, maintenance, and calibrations on assigned instruments (GPC, UPLC, HPLC, titrator, Karl-Fisher, etc) and equipment (Haake, grinder, etc.)
• Assist in the identification and implementation of projects to improve lab efficiency and/or manage lab assets including new equipment installation. Work closely with vendors to develop scope and drive projects for new equipment installations and/or equipment repairs / upgrades.
• Use “laboratory information management system” (LIMS) when appropriate to enter requests and submit materials, obtain work instructions and compile and present reports from testing data.
• Assist in the management and continuous improvement of quality processes and compliance to industry standards. This will include, but is not limited to, writing / updating standard operating procedures related to assigned tasks / equipment, coordinating testing, reviewing and understanding industry standards as they apply to testing and analysis performed in the lab.
• Initiate discussions with technologists (chemists/chemical engineers) and other requestors to obtain further clarification as needed before completing tasks / activities, or to communicate results.
• Maintain the laboratory in according to 5S principles
• Fully participate in lab safety and housekeeping duties.
• Maintain the chemical inventory and dispose of both hazardous and general waste according to site/industry standards for supporting a Chemical Hygiene Plan.

What Matters to SABIC

• Degrees / Experience: Minimum BS, Chemistry , Polymer Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline; wet chemistry skills preferred. Previous industrial experience is a plus.
• General knowledge and experience with organic chemistry and lab reactions and equipment.
• Attention to laboratory/chemical safety and familiarity with MSDS/SDS documents.
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office products, SAP, and LIMS.
• Strong mathematical aptitude.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for internal and external interface.
• Attention to detail and organized approach to work.
• Ability to work independently as well as demonstrated teamwork skills.
