Position

The University of Washington invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar to work on projects related to artificial intelligence, education, and children. The postdoctoral scholar will be appointed in the Department of Human Centered Design and Engineering, College of Engineering at the University of Washington. In collaboration with project PI Dr. Julie Kientz, the postdoctoral scholar will collaborate on projects relating to the designing and/or evaluating novel technologies for children, education, and families. Specific projects will be a combination of supporting existing and emerging threads of research in the above areas as well as developing new projects led by the postdoctoral scholar in these areas. The Postdoctoral Scholar will also have the opportunity to engage and network with researchers across the University of Washington, such as through the DUB group, the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, the CERES center, CREATE, the School of Medicine, the School of Nursing, UW KidsTeam, as well as broader Seattle-area collaborators such as at Seattle Children’s and local industry leaders in the area. There will also be opportunities to collaborate with the AI Institute for Exceptional Education hosted at the University of Buffalo. The PI is an experienced mentor and is dedicated to developing the career of the postdoctoral scholar for the next phase beyond this position. The position will begin as early as September 2023 and offer an initial one-year term with the possibility for a second-year renewal. The expected salary starts at $65,508/year, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Postdoctoral Scholars are represented by UAW 4121 and are subject to the collective bargaining agreement, unless agreed exclusion criteria apply. Qualifications

Applicants must have a PhD, EdD, or foreign equivalent by date of appointment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills An ability to work in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment, including demonstrated success in working with children and/or diverse populations Prior experience with human-centered design methods and/or mixed methods An interest or desire to learn about artificial intelligence approaches An interest or desire to learn about speech language pathology Experience with mentoring junior students is desired We will consider candidates who have accepted faculty positions at another institution but with the ability to defer their start date.
