Job Description - Senior Software Engineer, Vehicle

What you’ll do

Embedded system software engineers at Scout are responsible for the design and implementation of a variety of components that enable many infotainment-centric features, including bluetooth, WiFi, Android HALs, SWCs, and other services and middleware. Together, these components support many unique, Scout-branded experiences. Embedded systems software engineers would closely with instrument cluster software engineers and infotainment app software engineers to provide Scout customers with a seamless HMI experience.

  • Design and implement flexible, maintainable, and performant QNX or Linux-based C/C++ apps, services, frameworks, and SDKs
  • Deliver new features, enhancements, and bug fixes at a high velocity
  • Leverage test driven development principles to maximize code quality
  • Actively contribute to code quality by participating in code reviews
  • Author design documentation, technical specifications, and delivery plans; define roadmaps
  • Embrace and refine team coding standards and processes
  • Track and leverage new real-time, embedded systems technologies, software engineering best practices, and design patterns
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including UX Design, product, and other main systems engineering partners
  • Provide technical leadership within the engineering org

Location & Travel Expectations: The responsibilities of this role require attendance at in-person meetings and events regularly. This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Fremont, CA. Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.

What you’ll bring

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science or related field 
  • Extensive understanding of C/C++, AUTOSAR, app optimization & performance, and QNX or Linux frameworks and libraries
  • Exceptional software development skills with QNX or Linux, C/C++, and VSCode
  • Extensive knowledge of software architecture, design patterns, and software development best practices
  • Highly productive and motivated, able to work independently with minimal direction; able to transform ambiguity into actionable deliverables 
  • 5+ years of Android application software development experience
  • 7+ years of software development experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent collaborative skills, ability to provide and receive guidance
  • Effective problem solving skills, able to consider alternative options and select the optimal solution
  • Thoughtful, pragmatic approach that considers tradeoffs (e.g.: future proofing vs. over-engineering)
  • Embraces software engineering KPIs, including delivery velocity, quality, planning

Pay Transparency

This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.

Initial base salary range = $165,000-$185,000

Internal leveling code: IC9
