Position Highlights

This is an Extended Temporary Employment (ETE) position.

The Research Technologist will provide full time lab and experiment oversight, including running UV sources, operating vacuum systems, and setting up/running experiments. This work includes helping graduate students on their various research projects, completing tasks as needed in the lab. This work includes detector work, grating work, and other miscellaneous projects. The ideal candidate will also write research papers and begin to conduct their own laboratory experiments, in addition to supporting others in the lab.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Miscellaneous research and technical tasks to be done in the Hamden UV Lab. These tasks include testing of detectors, gratings, mirror mounts, and other components as needed.
  • Designing hardware, getting quotes, ordering hardware, installation of hardware and software components, initial set-up of components, and eventually testing of detectors and other hardware.
  • Some basic solidworks component design. Interfacing with vendors to place orders for components. Set-up of vacuum systems and troubleshooting of said systems.
  • Designing experiments for the lab and subsequent data analysis and compilation will be involved after the lab set-up is completed. Coordinate the activities of any undergraduate workers.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Astrophysics, Physics, or Engineering and one year of relevant work experience required.
  • Experience with UV lab procedures, vacuum systems, hardware, and optics handling.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a UV lab.
