School of Architecture Adjunct Studio Faculty /

The Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) School of Architecture (SoA) is looking for creative individuals with exceptional design abilities that demonstrate architectural accomplishments through research work, scholarly work, artistic work, and/or professional practice.

The School welcomes emerging practitioners and studio educators to contribute to the pedagogy of a dynamic school of architecture. We have openings for studio faculty in both the Core and Advanced Synthesis Options studios. These positions require a first professional degree in architecture and candidates with teaching and/or professional practice experience and/or Masters degree are preferred.

Responsibilities for faculty in a Core studio include teaching studio sessions every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 2:00 – 4:50, meeting with the coordinator prior to the start of the semester and on a weekly basis during the semester, attending all scheduled studio reviews, conducting mid-semester/end of semester individual conferences with your students, participating in mid-semester/end of semester grade meetings and providing written comments for each student to your coordinator.

Responsibilities for faculty in an ASO studio include developing the entire content of the studio in conversation with the ASO coordinator, teaching studio sessions every Tuesday and Thursday from 1:00 - 4:50, attending all scheduled studio reviews, conducting mid-semester/end of semester individual conferences with your students, participating in mid-semester/end of semester grade meetings and providing written comments for each student to the ASO coordinator.

The School of Architecture is committed to providing a deep immersion in the discipline of architecture. We have set ourselves the goal of preparing our students to meet the major challenges facing architectural design and the built environment in the 21st century; namely climate change, artificial intelligence and social justice. We place design and technological competency at the center of our pedagogy across the School's many programs, including the B. Arch, M. Arch, post-professional Master's (both MS and studio-based) and the doctoral programs.

Our student body totals over 400 undergraduate and graduate students, and is situated within the College of Fine Arts, alongside the Schools of Art, Design, Drama and Music. Our university is classified as an "R1: Doctoral University – Highest Research Activity" institution. As such, a wide range of transdisciplinary educational and research opportunities can be created at the school, college and/or university levels.

This position requires a first professional degree in architecture. Candidates with teaching and/or professional practice experience and a Masters degree in architecture or related field are preferred.
