Overview:

We seek students to work with our environmental-research team; we strive to understand the chemical and physical properties of the natural world, and how our human activity might impact that world. Our main focus is understanding the unique interaction between air quality and winter weather patterns of the Uinta Basin. Duties for this position will depend on the applicant’s interests and the team’s needs. We are looking for students with interest in areas that include (but are not limited to):

• Statistical and manual analysis of weather patterns
• Data visualization design
• Computer programming and modeling; website design
• Creative scientific writing and public communication
• Chemical measurements in the field and laboratory
• Instrument design, construction, and testing

Flexible hours and time off. Based at the Vernal USU Uintah Basin Campus.

Responsibilities:

Assist with research projects and other work as described in the overview.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience in the above areas is a benefit but not required; there is emphasis on finding applicants with an open mind, a positive attitude, with the ability to work both independently and in a team.
• We also value applicants with a proven record of taking initiative in assignments, and producing careful, thoughtful, and consistent work.
• Coursework in science, mathematics, computing, and/or statistics is preferred.
• We encourage applications from all backgrounds, communities, and levels of experience with scientific research.

Advertised Salary: Minimum $15 per hour ADA:

Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes. The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and may lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
