The Senior Director of Patient Engagement; Patient Insights & Behavioral Science is responsible for applying behavioral science to enhance clinical trial development and understanding the factors affecting patient and caregiver decisions regarding care and trial participation. This role involves creating and driving a global strategy for gathering and analyzing feedback from patients, caregivers, and investigators to inform trial design and improve clinical strategies. The Senior Director will collaborate with leadership to create educational and intervention programs that boost trial enrollment and retention, while maintaining a focus on quality and inspection readiness, and guiding key decisions for delivering Lilly’s assets.

Strategic Leadership & Delivery

  • Tasked with formulating and executing a global feedback collection strategy from clinical trial participants to inform design and strategy.

  • Partners with internal and external leaders to grasp the global healthcare landscape and patient care pathways.

  • Investigates factors influencing patient/caregiver decisions, sharing insights to enhance recruitment and retention strategies.

  • Monitors external innovation, collaborating with leaders to integrate new capabilities and manage vendors.

  • Oversees third-party providers of services and technologies, ensuring optimal value from global insights.

  • Guarantees that activities align with global regulations, guidelines, and best practices.

  • Leads with agility, fostering efficiency and learning to influence trial strategies.

  • Establishes metrics to monitor business processes and enhance decision-making effectiveness.

  • Assesses partner needs, driving process improvements and support automation.

  • Exhibits adaptability and innovative problem-solving to deliver high-quality results swiftly.

  • Engages with leaders to apply behavioral science for better clinical trial recruitment and retention.

Enterprise Leadership

  • Spearhead best practices and knowledge sharing within Patient Engagement, Clinical Design Delivery & Analytics, and Lilly Research Labs.

  • Foster a culture focused on efficiency through process enhancement, data, technology, innovation, and learning.

  • Work with leaders to comprehend and improve patient recruitment and retention globally, using behavioral insights to refine strategies.

  • Participate in the drug development community to integrate external insights into ongoing improvement initiatives.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific, behavioral sciences, market research, consumer behavior, or health related field preferred

  • 3 years' experience in the pharmaceutical industry in drug development, clinical research experience, and/or marketing, market research, consumer engagement or consumer journey expertise.

  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the country. Lilly does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B, or TN status) for this employment position.

Other Information/Additional Preferences:

  • Post-graduate degree, e.g., Pharm D, M.S., M.B.A. or Ph.D.

  • Strong interpersonal and excellent communication (written and verbal), organizational and negotiation skills

  • Comprehensive understanding of the pharmaceutical industry and global drug development/clinical research

  • Experience with handling complex projects and leading cross-functional teams.

  • Proven track record of leading change and influencing teams.

  • In-depth knowledge of quality systems

  • Project management experience and results oriented experience

  • Commitment to delivering superior customer experiences

  • Willingness to travel (10-25%)
