What You Need to Know

The Senior Electrical Engineer is for the design of topside and subsea electrical and software equipment of the Subsea Control System (SCS) to include but not limited to, Master Control Stations (MCS), Hydraulic Power Units (HPU), Electrical Power Units (EPU), Topside Protocol Communication Unit (TPCU) modem racks, and subsea data acquisition systems for offshore facilities.

The Senior Electrical Engineer will work closely with the Electrical and Software Engineering Supervisor to provide resource planning and regular project updates past, present and future.

Additional responsibilities include supporting test/service engineers in testing/troubleshooting of electrical subsea distribution components, assemblies, and the electrical power and communication subsystems. Perform Installation and commissioning of Topside and Subsea Control Systems.

 

What We Are Looking For

Key Accountabilities:

  • Design and production of product electrical schematics, general arrangement drawings, system layout and block diagrams utilizing Computer Aided Design (CAD) applying principals of analogue and digital circuit design, PLC I/O (Input/Output) design, explosive atmosphere principals and low voltage circuits principals in the use of subsea and topside electrical control equipment.
  • Employ industry standard principals in the design of topside and subsea LAN (Local Area Networks) utilizing concepts of network topology, structure, transmission rates and signal types.
  • Oversee and approve the manufacture and installation of electrical components within the Topside and Subsea control systems, utilizing both practical and theoretical knowledge of electrical hardware.
  • Perform Power and Communication subsea analysis calculations utilizing TINA TI modelling software and electrical power engineering principals.
  • Knowledgeable of design principles and implementation of standards such as ATEX (Explosive Atmosphere), IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission), NEC (National Electrical Code), DSEAR (Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations), API (American Petroleum Institute), ISO (International Organization for Standardization), etc.
  • Ensure projects are completed to client requirements, on time, within budget, and comply within company and industry standards.
  • Create and approve of project documentation and drawings.
  • Manage the customer interface to maintain a good working relationship.
  • Advise the Electrical and Software Engineering Supervisor of any potential areas of risk that could result in an overrun of material costs or man hours.
  • Creating Bills of Material (BOM) and product structure for transposition to company MRP (Material Requirement Planning) system.
  • Create and ensure that all project documentation has been produced in accordance with the agreed project Supplier Document Requirements List (SDRL).
  • Analysing product or equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine designs which can be produced by existing manufacturing or processing facilities and methods.
  • Direct and coordinate manufacturing or building of prototype product or system.
  • Compiling and analysing operational, test, and research data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified equipment or product.
  • Analysing test data and reports to determine if test design meets functional and performance specifications.
  • Confer with other engineering personnel and prepare design modifications as required.
  • Evaluating engineering test results for possible application to development of systems or other uses
  • Evaluating field installations and recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions.
  • Preparing or directing preparation of product or system layout and detail drawings and schematics
  • Know and understand Proserv’s Quality Policy and comply with all requirements of the Quality Systems Manual, Operating and Technical Procedures and Workplace Instructions.
  • Ensuring work assignments are carried out to the highest quality level.
  • Participate/assist in equipment testing
  • Performing any other delegated responsibilities as instructed by Line Management within the timeframe specified in a safe and efficient manner to meet business requirements. Provided the instruction is reasonable and you are capable and deemed competent to fulfil these.
  • Design and work with suppliers to create part specifications.
  • Create and implement project hardware development and testing.
  • Support proposals and account management on an as-needed basis.
  • Conduct design reviews with multiple disciplines to ensure projects conform to client requirements.
  • Travel on short notice may be required to visit domestic and international customer sites as well as offshore facilities from time to time.
  • Any other delegated responsibilities as instructed by Line Management within the timeframe specified in a safe and efficient manner to meet business requirements, provided the instruction is reasonable and you are capable and deemed competent to fulfil these. 

Qualifications / Skills & Experience

Education

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering Technology, or a related field.

Preferred (but not required):

  • Master’s degree in any engineering discipline and/or Professional Engineering license.

Experience/Skills

Essential:

  • Electrical and/or software (applications level) engineering background.
  • Five (5) to Eight (8) years design experience.
  • Five (5) to Eight (8) years offshore (topside or subsea) experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Advanced knowledge of MRP/ERP systems.
  • Proficient with 2D CAD design software.
  • Proven track record in an Electrical/Automation design/build related environment.
  • Working knowledge of hazardous area equipment selection/installation/maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of applicable IEC/NEC electrical safety requirements.
  • Working knowledge and familiarity with API / ISO standards.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of electrical/electronic equipment design and application.
  • Working knowledge of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Human Machine Interface (HMI) requirements and work process.
  • Advanced aptitude for electro/mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Must have the ability to obtain Offshore Water Survival certification (either HUET or BOSIET) and Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).

  • Multi-tasking: Must be able to coordinate several tasks at the same time.
  • Workplace Flexibility: Willingness to travel at short notice and for extended periods of time, including offshore and/or out-of-state locations for up to three (3) weeks at a time.

Preferred:

  • Five (5) to Eight (8) years Subsea Control Systems (SCS) experience.
  • Working knowledge of automation systems (including communication equipment selection/installation); electrical system design; Allen-Bradley, Citect, FT View and Wonderware software packages; and design/manufacture of Safety Integrity Level (SIL) rated equipment.
  • Working knowledge of ATEX, IEC, NEC, UL and CSA standards, specifications, and requirements.
  • Working Knowledge of Modbus and Ethernet IP protocols.
  • Experience as team lead or in a supervisory position.
  • 3D design software experience (SolidWorks preferred)
  • MathCAD software experience.
