Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records in the general ledger and supporting workpapers, processing payroll, and interfacing with other departments throughout the organization on financial activities such as accounts payable, expense reimbursements, and payroll matters. As part of a high-growth, early-stage company, the Staff Accountant will also assist with relevant ad hoc projects and requests as necessary.

Job Responsibilities:

• Prepare and record monthly journal entries
• Prepare month end close reconciliations and schedules
• Review monthly trend and budget analyses and research variances
• Track expenditures associated with federal grant projects
• Prepare supporting documents and reconciliations for annual external financial audit and federal grant single audits
• Process payroll and assist employees with payroll-related inquiries
• Post payroll to the general ledger
• Reconcile monthly benefit invoices to employee roster
• Maintain accurate personnel records in payroll platform alongside Financial Controller and Director of Human Resources
• Assist the Financial Controller in maintaining payroll compliance with state authorities
• Code banking and payable transactions
• Monthly invoicing for Clinical Trial Services revenue stream
• Assist with accounting review and processing of employee expense reports
• Assist with ad hoc analysis, requests, and projects as necessary
• Assist in the preparation of the monthly financial statements to meet stakeholder deadlines
• Assist with process improvements and documentation

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

• Minimum 2-4 years' experience in full-cycle general ledger accounting
• Experience with entry-level to mid-sized accounting platforms (such as Xero, QuickBooks Online, NetSuite, etc.)
• Experience in the health care industry and/or medical diagnostics field preferred
• Experience in compliance with NIH Grants Policy Statement a plus
• Experience with payroll a plus (both processing and posting to the general ledger)
• Strong background in generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)

• Must have strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy
• Critical thinker and strong analytical, organizational, and creative problem-solving skills
• Strong ability to think quickly, adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced, unstructured environment
• The ability to work both collaboratively and independently
• Excellent communication skills
• Advanced knowledge of Excel and Microsoft Office Suite

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required

• Combination of seated and standing work to complete the core functions of the role
• The position is based at the Company's Scottsdale, Az headquarters and must be on site a minimum of three days per week with scheduled to be coordinated with manager.
