Summer Lecturer Pool Digital Humanities Division of Arts and Humanities Position overview

Salary range: The posted UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment. See the following table for the salary scale for this position . A reasonable estimate for this position is $66,259 - $76,814.



Percent time: Summer Sessions Lecturers are appointed at 11% in part-time positions that are weighed at 50%. Lecturers can teach more than one course at a time.



Anticipated start: Summer appointments begin in the third week of May and run into mid August.



Review timeline: Typically, the Division reviews applications for summer teaching in February/March.
Applicants are considered for positions as needs arise; the existence of this pool does not guarantee that a position is available.

Position description The Division of Arts and Humanities at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for a pool of outstanding lecturers to teach Digital Humanities using data science tools to teach online courses in the Digital Humanities Summer Minor.


In addition to instruction, general duties include holding office hours, developing syllabi and assignments, writing and grading exams, and grading and commenting on papers. Other duties may be assigned as necessary. Please see our website for more information on the currently taught online courses.


Specifically, we are looking for lecturers for the following courses in our program:

  • DIGHUM 101 Practicing the Digital Humanities
  • DIGHUM 150B Digital Humanities and Visual and Spatial Analysis
  • DIGHUM 160 Critical Digital Humanities

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
Master's degree (or equivalent international degree). Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
For those who are not US citizens or permanent residents, a legal permit that allows work in the United States (such as a US visa that allows employment) is required by start date of the position. The Department is unable to provide a visa/work permit. Preferred qualifications
Topics vary, and a background in digital humanities and the relevant field is strongly preferred. College level teaching experience in the relevant field is also preferred. Application Requirements
