Job Description - Surgery Benefits Coordinator

Job Title:  Surgery Benefits Coordinator 

Reports To:  Manager, Revenue Cycle

Job Summary:  Works up insurance benefits for all upcoming surgeries and some injections for all providers. Sends the deposit required out to patients and follows up before services received to verify payment and collect payments.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: 

  • Requires high level of organizational skills, excellent documentation, and communication skills. 
  • Comfortable calling patients and asking for payments for upcoming services.
  • Comfortable calling patients to get updated insurance information when needed. 
  • Corresponds with surgery scheduler when deposits are not paid. 
  • Verifies eligibility and benefits with each insurance and determining what if any deposit will be due before services received. 
  • Works out of three systems, eCW, Surgimate and Rivet to make notations as needed and completes task in each system. 
  • Gets up and down to gather info from faxes. 
  • Works cooperatively with others to increase accuracy and efficiency.
  • Assist other departments as requested by supervisor. 
  • Attends meetings as required. 
  • Maintains strictest confidentiality. 
  • Performs other duties as required.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification:  None.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Requires high level of organizational skills, excellent documentation, and communication skills. 
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of insurance plans and criteria.
  • Ability to work in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Strong computer skills

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent

Experience:

Minimum of two (2) years of experience with insurance benefits.
