Full time Position Term: Position Details: The Department of Community and Behavioral Health (CBH), Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine, Washington State University Health Sciences Spokane, WA invites applications for multiple permanent, full-time, tenure-track, 12-month annual Assistant or Associate Professor positions. The positions will begin in Summer/Fall 2024. Position specific details: These roles are a unique opportunity to collaborate with an interdisciplinary team across Washington State University in the establishment and ongoing implementation of a new Bachelor of Science in Public Health degree program at WSU. Specifically, these faculty will be responsible, in collaboration with the Chair, for delivery and oversight of a Behavioral Health degree track in collaboration with faculty on the WSU Vancouver Campus. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Teaching upper-level undergraduate Public Health courses, with possible opportunities for graduate level and professional degree teaching;
  • Developing of an independent research program in public health/behavioral health, including securing external funding;
  • Providing service to the department, college, university, broader community, and their profession;
  • Contributing to integral growth and success of public health education and research within the College and University.



We seek candidates whose research interests complement and enhance within the existing departmental strengths of Community and Behavioral Health , particularly in the areas of mental health epidemiology (e.g., addictions, severe mental illness, depression), chronic disease/disability (e.g., Alzheimer's disease, diabetes, developmental disabilities), health economics/health policy, implementation science, and/or biostatistics and epidemiology. Successful candidates will pursue innovative and collaborative research related to the practice of public health, and establish an outstanding, externally funded research program.



Required Qualifications for All Candidates:

  • Earned PhD in Public Health or other related discipline: or commensurate degree.
  • Demonstrated record of, and commitment to, excellence in teaching
  • Demonstrated record of, and commitment to, excellence in research
  • Potential for external research funding
  • Prior teaching experience and ability to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Commitment to serving the diverse population of Washington State.
  • Track record of peer-reviewed publications




Required Qualifications for Candidates at Associate Professor Rank:

  • Six years of experience at the assistant professor rank and demonstrated performance toward tenure expectations.
  • Appointment to the rank of Associate will be contingent on meeting tenure expectations in the College of Medicine at Washington State University through the Faculty Annual Review ( Faculty Manual Section 3.C.4 ) and Promotion and Tenure process ( College of Medicine Tenure and Promotion Guidelines ).
  • Prior successful securing grant funding as a Principal Investigator (PI)
  • Established independent program of research
  • Track record of excellence in teaching




Preferred Qualifications for All Candidates:

  • Experience teaching undergraduate public health courses
  • Experience with curriculum development
  • Subspecialty training in a behavioral health related field

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110 , the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
