Job Description - Tissue Processing and Distribution Coordinator

The primary responsibility of this position is to process and distribute donor ocular tissue to Lions Gift of Sightâ™s (LGS) research clients. Travel may be required to attend domestic and international meetings for client recruitment and exhibition. This is a full-time, on-site, Monday-to-Friday position, and will require occasional holiday and evening hours. The position also required scheduled on-call duty with availability by cell phone for research tissue requests and triaging.

70% Donor Tissue Processing and Distribution:

  • Responsible for day-to-day distribution of ocular research tissue
  • Perform donor eye dissection, photography, imaging analysis and documentation on dissected tissue.
  • Allocate available ocular tissue to meet processing and researchersâ™ needs and preferences.
  • Work with donor coordination and recovery staff to provide customized services including specialty procurements, tissue preservations and processing. 
  • Coordinate tissue shipment, receipt and distribution with research clients and other eye banks.
  • Document tissue requests received via email, fax or phone in iTransplant
  • Document tissue distribution in a manner that invoices can be generated from the information provided.

20% Research Customer Service:

  • Maintain customer preferences, distribution history, and processing protocols in LGSâ™s client database.
  • Provide timely response to researchersâ™ requests, questions, complaints, and tissue-related issues.
  • Assist the Research & Development Director with problem-solving, provide customer service, and collect feedback from existing and potential clients in domestic and international conferences to improve tissue processing and placement.

10% Other:

  • Complete weekly, monthly, and annually schedule lab maintenance (research-related inventory, surgical instrument cleaning and sterilization, etc.)
  • Monitor lab equipment functionality.
  • Order lab supplies needed for the research operation.

Expected Starting Salary Range: $25.00 to $27.50hr depending on qualifications and experience.

All required qualifications must be documented on application materials. Required Qualifications:

  • BS/BA and 1 year of related experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience to equal 5 years. 
  • Demonstrated dissection skills with human and/or animal tissues.
  • Ability to follow safety guidelines in a human tissue laboratory.
  • Experience prioritizing multiple tasks successfully and in a timely manner.
  • Documented decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Experience working with microscopes.
  • Proficiency using word processing, spreadsheets, and image processing software.
