Job Description - Veterinary Hospital Manager


The Nashville Hospital Manager has overall accountability for the cultural, operational, and financial growth of the hospital. The Hospital Manager performs a wide range of difficult to complex in supporting our core values: patient care, client experience, team health, and healthy business.  They must serve and successfully lead the clinical floor support team, staffing, teammate development and human resources. They must collaborate with fellow leaders, be aware and give input on community marketing efforts, promotion of services, staffing, and discretionary activities that serve to support the hospital’s core values, trajectory, and growth. The must be nimble and able to respond to these dynamic factors in a growing 24 hour emergency and specialty hospital. Essential job functions:
  • Responsible for managing the clinical operations and supporting financial health of the hospital.
  • Interfaces and collaborates with On Site Leadership and Ethos to ensure that the hospital goals are met.
  • Responsible for overseeing the recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of staff.
  • Responsible for working closely with the Clinical Floor leaders to establish the best medical care while keeping the positive financial health of the hospital.
  • Monitor employee competence and effectiveness through manager feedback and observation, as well as staff performance and salary reviews.
  • Assign job responsibilities to managers and delegate as necessary.
  • Responsible for policy enforcement as well as overseeing disciplinary actions and terminations.
  • Organize and conduct staff meetings. Meet regularly with managers to discuss, evaluate, and plan for the welfare of the practice. Attend corporate meetings as needed.
  • Oversight of LOD client concerns/reviews.
  • Oversee client experience and to ensure that clients and patients are seen and treated in a professional, timely and competent manner.
  • Ensure that the OSHA and Safety program and procedures are being monitored and updated so that the hospital is in safety compliance.
  • Heavily engaged in staff retention rates
  • Heavily engaged in culture feedback/surveys/mood mob/events
  • Awareness of P&L, EBITDA, Labor, various income statements and other financial data to find ways to improve revenue and profit.
  • Meet regularly with veterinarians to discuss performance; receive and deliver feedback. Heavily involved in retention.
  • Understand, participate and support planned marketing/mood mob events and programs and ensure that the hospital staff is engaged and supporting these efforts.
  • Read and respond to all communication in a timely manner to ensure that Ethos policies, guidelines, and recommendations are quickly communicated to hospital staff and adequate training follows if needed.
  • Regular attendance at Ethos/Local functions to represent leadership
  • Regular attendance at management meetings
Essential skills:
  • Knowledge of financial budget management.
  • Knowledge of sales and marketing efforts/techniques
  • Background in managing service-oriented operations
  • Ability to plan, organize and effectively present ideas and concepts
  • Ability to take information obtained from clients, staff, and other sources, discern that which is credible and assess the hospital and its operation objectively
  • Must be able to multi-task and deal with high levels of stress in an environment of changing priorities

Education:
  • College degree preferred
  • Advanced training/education as LVMT, CVPM, Management ideal.
  • Minimum of 2 years in a people management role.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with operations management responsibilities, to include profit and loss.
