Position Highlights

The Department of Family, Community and Preventive Medicine is hiring an Academic Coordinator for the Oral Health in Medicine Initiative at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix.

The Oral Health in Medicine Initiative (OHMI) is a funded curricular initiative in the College of Medicine-Phoenix supported by the Delta Dental Arizona Foundation. OHMI intends to improve the oral health of patients and their communities by educating and training the next generation of physicians in this area. The OHMI has a strong focus on health equity and community engagement and will involve oral health equity service learning and research/scholarly work.

The successful candidate will support the faculty working on OHMI at COM-P (Co-Directors, the Primary Investigators, the Health Equity and Community Medicine Fellow), and the curricular activities related to this initiative, including clinical.

This is an on-site position. The Academic Coordinator will be expected to coordinate and be present at the meetings and events relevant to OHMI. Intermittent off-campus visits at community partner sites within the Phoenix metropolitan area may be required.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinates with faculty and staff to facilitate the development and delivery of experiential and service-learning activities in the community for medical students in collaboration with other health professions programs and community partners.
  • Coordinate the scheduling of all curricular sessions and activities relevant to OHMI.
  • In collaboration with the OHMI leadership, and faculty leads, coordinate curricular development in Oral Health, including the Open Educational Resource, 4th year elective, and other relevant content throughout the medical school curriculum.
  • Provide direct support to the Program logistics:
  • Manage operational support and calendar for the Co-Directors of the Program.
  • Schedule and attend all relevant OHMI meetings, and events; take and distribute meeting minutes to all participants.
  • Assist faculty and leads with maintaining presentation materials for seminars and workshops and uploading them in the COM-P Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Responsible for tracking medical student participation in activities.
  • Responsible for calendars and scheduling for the curricular and extracurricular activities involved in OHMI.
  • Liaison with the Marketing department for keeping the program’s website up to date, including uploading materials and verifying contact information on the website.
  • Assist in the development and maintain strong relationships with community partners.,
  • Serving as the liaison between COM-P students, faculty, fellows, mentors, staff and outside/community agencies in facilitating implementation of OHMI.
  • Assist OHMI faculty with on-boarding and provide assistance as needed.
  • Ability to compile data and generate reports for OHMI leadership to present to the various stakeholders.
  • Additional duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required.
  • One (1) year of relevant work experience required.


Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in an Educational Setting, Higher Education, College of Medicine or a Research setting.
Master degree in medical education, public policy, psychology or a related field.
Experience with Grant Proposals and Grant Reporting.
